After yesterday’s problems in the freezing cold winds, I have taken your advice and stayed in today. So it’s an indoor capture and one of my hobbies, small silver items with lots of genealogy.
Let’s look at some of my WATCH FOBS mostly from around 1890 to 1920. How many of you can remember a Father or more likely a Grandfather with a pocket watch on the end of a chain and a fob like these on the other end.
Top Left to Right.
1. 1895 fob with unmarked and made in Birmingham.
2. 1903 fob with rose gold cartouche. Marked Q.S.M A.Kay, on the reverse it’s engraved Little Jun 1st. Made in Birmingham
3. 1901 fob with a photograph in the centre but faded . Made in Birmingham.
4. 1910 fob engraved on the front, W.S.S Levenshulme 1914-15, The reverse is engraved, Wesleyan Missions, Frances Boston for Diligence. Frances Boston was born in Chorlton Upon Medlock, Lancashire in 1905 and died in Oldam, Lancs. In 1987. She had married a John Rowbotham in 1927. Made in Birmingham.
Bottom Left to Right.
5. 1876 fob with the centre has an engraving of a beagle dog. Made in Birmingham.
6. 1904 fob, beautifully engraved and marked 1905 A.O.F (Ancient order of Foresters) W.B. Made in Chester
7. 1899 fob with centre engraved ALPHETTA 1908, haven’t found out any genealogy yet but the name indicates a Jewish family from London. Made in Birmingham.
8. 1910 fob and my favourite. Presented by the Tottenham Education Committee to Harold Sage. On the reverse its engraved:” For regular and punctual attendance during the three years ended 31st July 1910”. Harold George Sage was born in Tottenham, London 30th April 1899 and died in Stanmore, North South Wales in Australia in 1958, so he emigrated at some time. I have traced his family tree back to 1760 so far. Made in Chester.
Wonderful collection. I have just had the most marvelous time wondering through your January album. I didn't stop to comment but I did enjoy my time ther and got a laugh or two. Love the golfers.
A wonderful collection with such an interesting history. I believe number 3 is my favorite since it offers a place for a photo. The capture is a fav for me. (And good work following our instructions to stay inside today. We're watching you! )
Stunning collection Heather! So what else do you collect? We're seeing some great collections when you're forced to stay indoors - so pleased you took our advice :)
@janiskay Thank you Janice, hope you're feeling better, laughter is a great healer, hope I can help.
@lynnilou Your welcome any time Lyn, thanks for the FAV.
