This wonderful building is the Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, a Roman Catholic church. It was rebuilt in 1850 as part of a very large older priory, unfortunately the vast Dominican priory buildings were pulled down in 1971, leaving the church to continue on it's own.
It's in one of the valley's near my home and I have often passed it on the way to work. I could never find a suitable place to photograph it as there were large trees in the way, that was until the other day when I did a geocache nearby. Today I found the car park around the back which was absolutely packed, I found out why a few seconds after my last photograph, when a funeral cortege came out from the main door. It may have been a military funeral as the coffin was draped in the Union Jack Flag.
I did think what a beautiful place to enter heaven. Please view with the black background.
Thank you for the historical research which explains why there is such a vast church in th countryside. Your geocaching must take you to some interesting places.
Churches and trees are so photogenic - well done on finally getting the capture that you have been looking for.
Also, in relation to your profile, I'm pleased to read that you are now back out geocaching - happy hunting. As for your camera, you are clearly doing some very good work with the Coolpix P520 - however, don't let your age or anything else stop you moving into the world of the DSLR. Many decent cameras, lenses, and all the other additional gear can be bought at quite a good price second hand, esp online, and you could find something from a few years ago at a very affordable price. You have a great eye for sizing up an image, and the image quality you are working with is of a great standard. That said, I'd recommend having a look at a pre-loved DSLR to expand your photography skills.
