A Fine Pair. by ladymagpie

A Fine Pair.

Firstly, thank you all for your kind comments when I wasn't feeling to good the other day, I'm sure it was something I ate, or in fact something I shouldn't have ate.

I expect those in the UK will be thinking what is she taking a picture of these items, they are everywhere. Well it will look interesting to our foreign viewers and they are not that common in this case.

There is a series of geocaches been put out called "A Fine Pair", and to comply there must be a red telephone box and a red letter box within the view of a single photograph. In most villages in the UK there is always one of each and was the only communication point from the village. Well before everyone had a home phone and later the internet.

Today in many of my local villages the old phone box has been converted to a borrowing library and book shelves are where the phone used to be, Perhaps they should repaint them a "Fifty Shades of Grey" Wink, Wink

View with the black background.
Super pop of colour and compsition. Not as common as you might think these days. Much prefer the old red telephone boxes.

I love this! The red is so bright and cheerful, and yes it is interesting to foreign viewers! I am in the US and telephone boxes (we call them booths) have almost completely disappeared. But even when they existed they were a dull gray color. What a cool thing that some of these colorful boxes have a second use, a borrowing library.

I love the old Red phone boxes, the new ones are ghastly. But I am sure they will all be confined to history in a few years. I can't remember the last time I used one TBH

It sure is interesting for foreign viewers. We have been in the UK several times (years and years ago) and we've taken many pictures of these beautiful phone boxes with our children standing in front of them. Oh, and I love your red double deckers as well!

Indeed a wonderful pair. I would love to see a phone booth (what we call them here) again. We do still have a few mail drop boxes, but they are becoming a thing of the past also. Nicely captured! Glad to hear you are feeling well again!

The old red phone box. Not in Australia. Old red phone boxes are as rare as hen's teeth. A fine pair indeed. Love the buildings in the background as well.

Lovely shot Heather..... we don't have many of the red phone boxes left around my way .... just the boring 'modern' BT boxes & most of those have been vandalised !!!

Great capture of what will be extinct in a few years! Love the fact that they are being "recycled" as libraries :)

Two iconic objects in one shot - has to be a fav

Being a foreigner, I appreciate the story. Should I admit I read first book? Oops... face now red as a UK phone booth.

Love the brown/green tones in the shot with the red that pops out. Nice to see a Telephone booth. We don't have them any more in the US. FAV

I always think these look great together; I did one in a village up from me, taken in snow and made it into a christmas card
