There are some strange people around the Stroud Valleys where I live, in fact I'm certain some locals have 6 fingers and toes and worship trees and flowers. It is well known for it's green credentials and as you walk around the town you will meet many people and shops that live frugally from the land.
It seems that we have unusual animals as well and I spotted this herd of sheep with extra long necks. I knew that a lot of farmers have moved into the Alpaca breeding, obviously for the wool, although can you have an alpaca sandwich.
I pulled up in a field gateway as I heard that there might be some here, unfortunately they where on the other side of the field on a misty day. A good zoom and I had them in my view but they didn't help and come over to see me.
What's the different between an Alpaca and a Lama. View with the dark background.
A fav for me. Beautifully captured. I know we have alpaca farms here in the south US but not sure how they differ from the llama. I think I'll look that up when I get back to my normal size computer screen tonight!
Lovely capture & amusing write up. My Niece works & looks after a pack of Alpaca's on a farm near Cambridge. I keep thinking to ask her if I can go along one day & get some photo's..... I think they're great looking animals.
Great capture of these beautiful animals! Llamas are twice as big as alpacas, and they have 2 coats - the outer being very course and the inner very soft. The alpaca has only one coat and is very fine. Alpacas were bred for their luxurious coats and llamas were used as pack carrying animals. Hope thet helps you! i had 2 alpacas as pets when I lived on the farm -they were beautiful.
