When I came out of my backdoor I could hear a commotion in the fields behind my home, so I had to be nosy and went round to have a look. Living on a hillside the farmers still need to harvest the grass and hay for their animals.
This local farmer was working on a very steep field but looks to have all the modern equipment for the task. I was stood on the road next to the chapel so you can see how steep and angled they were working.
Now today's title is also a phrase, "Making hay while the sun shines", which means:
Make the most of one's opportunities while you have the chance. This phrase has been traced back to as early as 1546. Best viewed with the black background again. Thanks for all your comments and FAV's.
I love this one! They use this method here too, but they use trucks to transport the harvested grass. They call it green-chop. I have often thought of catching them in action and getting a shot of the grass going into the trailer. But I missed them this year, very glad you caught it :) When my youngest son was a little boy, he wanted to drive one of those 'green-chop trucks', so you brought back fond memories for me - thank you!
Great capture! Looks like making "silage" as we would say over here as it's not being baled as hay. Then again we wrap the silage so you have me wondering what they do with this hay?? And yes we have the same saying :)
Great shot.. I thought to start with that you were playing with toys.. Nice to see this job done on the other side of the world.. like @gilbertwood we wrap our silage rather than putting it in a stack
Wow what an angle. I saw the first trailer load of hay passing the house this morning so now doubt the local fields will be next. The amount of hay seeds my dogs bring back will ensure that we have a good crop on the carpet next year!!
