Nutshell Bridge by ladymagpie

Nutshell Bridge

After my two photographs of Nutshell Bridge yesterday I decided to go back there today and show you the lane over the bridge between the buildings. I had such good response from those 2 pictures when I linked it on Photograph Facebook page, including lots more information and a contact from the current owner.

The bridge was built in 1779 and the cottage on the left (Nutshell Cottage) was added in 1803. The house on the right (Nutshell House) was added in 1825. This was originally a warehouse on a the canal wharf below.

I was told that at one time the cottage was lived in by the servants for the big house and the secret tunnel was their passageway into the house under the lane. The current owner informed me that the tunnel is still there but is now their office. (Thank you Sarah). View with the dark surround, it's worth it.

Thanks for all your comments and FAV's, much appreciated.
