A Creepy Gatehouse. by ladymagpie

A Creepy Gatehouse.

I thought I would start looking at some unusual and historic buildings around my area that you would drive by and perhaps take any notice. This is a very mysterious gate house at the opening to a huge park and mansion. It's very dark being in among so very tall trees and I'm not sure I would want to be here in the middle of the night.

There has been a mansion and park here since the 12th century, although the main mansion has been bought and pulled down over the years. The current mansion house and this crenelated, three-story, tower like lodge dates from around 1820. I wonder if the owner can stand on the top and shout out "I'm the king of the Castle". View with the dark surround if possible.

Hope you enjoyed this one, so that I can find some more interesting buildings nearby. Must thank you for putting those 2 lamb chops on the PP page yesterday through your comments and FAV's

this gate house date from 1820 and very unusual with the cast
Lovely history, hope this structure isn't torn down! Fav!

Interesting building worth posting

pity the main house has been torn down. Though singing "I'm King of the Castle" would be fitting.
Looking forward to your historical buildings.

@ninaganci The Main house hasn't been pulled, Different Mansions have been pulled down since the 12th century and a new one built. The current one was built the same time as the gatehouse in 1820 but has bits of all of the older buildings going back through the years.

@ribbet9 Can't be touched Candace as it's now classed as a listed building in the UK and you almost have to get permission to breath near it.

This stills quite big for an old gatehouse, the original mansion must have been very grand.
