I'm back to historic buildings in my area and today it's The Bear Inn, an old English pub set in a small beautiful village above the valleys. The Bear Inn was recorded from 1631 but may have first been the building on the opposite side of the road. This building is from the same period but was in fact the local court house from 1766 to 1838, that's why there was an open lockup across the road. See previous photo from 3 years ago:
The interior just oozes history with the cellars hewn out of the bedrock and a well is a further 58 feet deep. It's said that there is a tunnel between the nearby church and the building, maybe as the original prison was in the churchyard.
There is a very large inglenook fireplace with a priest hole hidden halfway up the chimney, a place where Catholic Priests hid when they were persecuted in the 16th century.
It's a wonderful pub where you can sit with your pint or glass of wine and take in all the history around you. Thank you all for getting my cloud picture on the PP page. View with the dark surround.
