Today my stroll was around the town that I moved to in Gloucestershire in 1951 from the county of Shropshire. My Father had been transferred to RAF Aston Downs, and we were given a brand new house to live in by the Air Ministry.
Yes I was just 4 years old and beginning my life of memories in Stonehouse, of course starting with my first school. I have these memories of walking holding my Mothers hand into this school, very nervous and apprehensive. You can just see the door I entered through on the right.
I didn't have to worry. as I soon made friends with all the other new pupils. This building hasn't changed much but there are many new buildings built all around, including a new main building, it's much larger today. I'm glad to say those freezing outside toilets have gone from the middle of the playground.
This was my school for 7 more years and It's been nice to have seen a few of my school mates around the district here and there. They may have changed and look a lot older, whereas I have remained young and beautiful as ever, I WISH.
That is rather a splendid building to start your school life in. I expect it looked very big & daunting to a four year old! Glad it’s still standing!
What a lovely old building - my first school was torn down and a new one replaced it. Fortunately, I have a print of the original. A fav for your capture and wonderful memories
Such a beautiful building to start your school life in. We had an outside toilets building at my school too, I’ll have to look it up and see if it’s still standing.
