My get-pushed challenge from Miss Mercy (@missmercy) this week was to tempt her with shiny pretty things - "jewellery, crystal and copper and their beautiful sparkles and reflections" because she loves looking at, and collecting these objects.
This pseudo-ebay style shot shows the hallmarks on my Great-grandmother's locket, indicating the:
Country of assay and standard of quality - the lion passant lower left (.925 British silver)
Town of the Maker's mark - anchor (Birmingham)
Year of manufacture - 1898 (using the Birmingham year chart to match the letter "y" in the correct font)
Maker - J.C. (possibly John Clifton or Joseph Carnell, although more study would be needed)
@northy@ruthmouch You are so right about the lighting! I spent over an hour shooting a silver tea set & gave up because the reflections of the room in the teapot were too hard to control. Every 'shiney thing' I have photographed for this challenge has had totally different lighting needs! Even so, I have had a ball with this challenge, and learnt a lot along the way!
