silver

My get-pushed challenge from Miss Mercy (@missmercy) this week was to tempt her with shiny pretty things - "jewellery, crystal and copper and their beautiful sparkles and reflections" because she loves looking at, and collecting these objects.

This pseudo-ebay style shot shows the hallmarks on my Great-grandmother's locket, indicating the:
Country of assay and standard of quality - the lion passant lower left (.925 British silver)
Town of the Maker's mark - anchor (Birmingham)
Year of manufacture - 1898 (using the Birmingham year chart to match the letter "y" in the correct font)
Maker - J.C. (possibly John Clifton or Joseph Carnell, although more study would be needed)

You can identify hallmarks at http://www.925-1000.com/british_marks.html
nicely shot! i always find these sorts of things quite difficult to get the lighting right...

Beautifully shot, you have got the lighting just right which is not easy! Pretty locket and interesting info to go with it.

@northy @ruthmouch You are so right about the lighting! I spent over an hour shooting a silver tea set & gave up because the reflections of the room in the teapot were too hard to control. Every 'shiney thing' I have photographed for this challenge has had totally different lighting needs! Even so, I have had a ball with this challenge, and learnt a lot along the way!

Superb work; I've had plenty of fun and games trying to do this sort of thing and it's not at all easy with a black background.
