digital brass rubbing by ltodd

digital brass rubbing

This is my delightful colleage Cat, who has made several appearances in my 365 album. This is her... "Hey, I was just walking past to get a cup of coffee and she takes my photo?" expression!!

This is a new technique that I discovered in a magazine - in PS:
--create a show all mask (inverted) from the image
--select the actual image and delete it from the image layer
--paint colour onto the image layer (this is #d2a971) using a range of rough edged paint brush tips. This was at 9% opacity.

An amazing effect - multiple colours can be painted on for a totall different look.
See http://365project.org/ltodd/extras/2013-02-11 for a multicoloured style used on architecture, and an explanation of the layers.
fav! i'm definitely going to try that effect. thank you for including directions!

@asutherland1964 no prob Andrew - I have not found anything the same on the internet, but there is a little more info & a screen shot of the layers on my other image at http://365project.org/ltodd/extras/2013-02-11 It was quite straightforward to do, but I do feel I have not been able to explain it properly. The wierdest thing is after deleting the image (once the inversed mask is created ) - there is nothing to see at all until you paint over with a colour. I will keep trying to find a better explanation, or write it more correctly, and tag you - -- but ask me if you can't get it to work or make sense. I am always happy to share anything I have learnt (especially if I learnt it in the hardest possible way.....)
