eggs after dark by ltodd

eggs after dark

I have been learning about soft lighting this week, and I wanted to see if I could capture maximum 'roundness' with these beautiful fresh eggs.
The lighting is indeed spectacular....

awesome! Such depth and sense of magic...which fresh eggs have in abundance. How did you light this, may I ask?

@jgpittenger - lightpainting with a tiny LED pulsed on& off over the front 4 eggs. In the dark with a 4 second exposure f9 ISO 100. I was about 8 inches above & changed the angle of 'impact' each time & with a tiny, tiny 'flourish' around each egg so as not to burn out the centre. The aim is to effectively have 4 different light sources. The hardest part was actually getting the composition & egg balancing just right so the light would 'wrap' around the eggs, but still have enough shadows to get a sense of 3D depth. It is equally important to shape the shadows AND the light for maximum impact. the pears yesterday just had close pulse lighting to make dramatic 'spotlights', where this is more 'old master' style lighting.

@jgpittenger always happy to try & explain, even if I don't know exactly what I am doing ( LOL!) If you watch https://haroldrossfineart.wordpress.com/2011/12/05/light-painting-tips-and-technique-the-shape-of-things/ it probably gives a more elegant explanation of my goal for the pic ... :) He really does a lot of multiple image blending & masking in PS to get his 'pefectly exposed' pictures, but they look amazing..
