Coming from the 'Bush Capital', a visit to Tokyo is such a jolt ..... there are so many people, aromas, colours, and constant movement..... everywhere. The only 'stillness' seemed to be found looking upwards.
Apologies to Ann, for yet another year, my March rainbow challenge did not get completed... and what's more, I now have an uncharacteristic desire for B&W.
Fantastic shot especially with that solitary figure at the top of the steps. What sort of lens did you use for this or do you adjust in Lightroom or Photoshop to get the perspective right and avoid that "leaning building look"?
@marnies I used my 24-70 lens which shoots fairly 'true', and this one is taken at 33 mm (on a full frame). I did spend a long time getting the best shooting POV to match these particular angles, and to avoid another building on the left that was definitely 'leaning in' . I use LR to clone out the tiniest smidge of that building that was still visible.
I checked the LR file & see I did apply +28 distortion correction (rather than auto lens profile) and then 'Auto' in Transform as well. That was to correct the bow in the top line of the front wall, rather than the buildings in the back. (you can see in the top right area , it is still not quite straight.) I had intended to also correct the buildings in PS too - but my first attempt made it worse, so I just left it with the LR corrections. :) I was not happy that the top of the stairs are not quite horizontal either, but thought it more important to have both the wall edge, building & man vertical. If this image were for competition, I possibly would spend more time correcting the angles! :-D
Such an @taffy photo -- and we traveled together in Japan a couple of years ago. Your photo shows the city's lines in such a modern, yet traditional way. That person is perfectly positioned.
This is a beautiful architectural shot, but it also -- as @jyokota Junko points out - tells a story. The figure is perfect and an important part of your composition!
