Its common name is Cranefly Orchid. A delightful find growing in my woods on the edge of the wash. I didn't have to see the blooms to identify it. I was able to identify it by its leaves - green on the top and purple on the back. It's supposed to bloom in the summer. I might have to venture back there to keep an eye on them. However, their green leaves, warmed in the leaf clutter, are easier to spot in the winter time. I was told there were native orchids all around me, but I didn't believe it. I wonder what else I can find back there in my little patch of woods.
