This is the Sri Krishnan Temple, one of the oldest Hindu temples in Singapore. It was built over 130 years ago. This temple is next to the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple in Waterloo Street.
What is special in Singapore is that, Chinese devotees of Buddhism are often seen praying at Hindu temples as well. You can see this in my photograph. Devotees on their way to the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple often stop outside the Sri Krishnan Temple to offer incense and prayers. This is partly because Buddha is regarded as an incarnation of Vishnu, a Hindu deity.
I love the architecture and craftsmanship. The temple is old and weather-beaten but still colorful and beautiful, and I like to see the richly detailed, nearly life-sized figure sculptures above the entrance. Tomorrow, I will have close-up shots for you.
Holy smokes! That's one impressive temple! I love the contrast between the old architecture and the modern building behind it. Look forward to seeing the close up photos you promised.
So beautiful. what great intricate figures. It seems strange to see that huge modern building next to it. It's great that the two cultures can mix like this.
I love the contrast between the old architecture and the modern building behind it. It's facinating, that Chinese devotees of Buddhism often pray at Hindu temples as well. I think, tolerance between religions is a very valuable good.
You captured some wonderful details and colors in the ornaments of this building! Fascinating and interesting details provided in your description, too! Wonderful work, Livia! I'll look forward to seeing your close ups!
Beautiful detail Livia, looking forward to your further shots and to echo what others have said isn't it marvellous that some people can appreciate others religion, lot to learn there.
I too like the contrast between old and new and the sharing of places of worship, that makes me happy. Looking forward to more of this interesting place you live. 8D
I could just sit here and study that temple and all of it's intricacy. Amazing architecture and colors. How interesting it is to see the mixture of buildings and the contrast. The "old" is much more beautiful. What has happened to the craftsmen who used to care about their work. Looking forward to the next photos.
What a gorgeous building, Livia! Beautiful capture. I love the idea of different religions sharing their faith. After all every religion teaches the same fundamental principles.
Great shot Livia, it is such a great contrast to see this lovely small temple dwarfed by the building behind. I guess at one point in its history it was as tall as the buildings around it. I look forward to your close ups tomorrow.
Hi Livia, this is a great shot and no, I didn;t get an enlarged version on my computer either. It just came up the same sixe. Thanks for your kind comment on my photo
A great, big, colorful, life-sized, booming "THANK YOU!" to all!
Thank you for taking the time to stop by. I know everyone's busy, I appreciate your generosity and kindness. I hope you all enjoy the close-up shot. The details amaze me.
One of the best parts of 365 is getting to see things like this through the eyes of someone I have a connection to...a fellow 365er. This is fabulous, Livia. Your capture is wonderful. Makes me want to visit.
Amazing architecture. Love how it appears unaffected by the modern world. Amazing detail and color. Its a wonder why we don't make architecture like this anymore. Have we lost the artisty? Is it money? A need to make quantity over quality?
( I don`t like the umbrella`s )
