Another distraction at the zoo for me. I noticed these small, pretty flowers. They are lantana flowers. According to a local guidebook on wildflowers, the lantana was introduced into Singapore from the tropical regions of the Americas. "This bush is common in waste places and roadsides." And apparently, as I'd discovered, in the zoo as well.
About yesterday's photo. I was surprised by the response! Thank you for your comments. It was just a case of the bat doing what bats do and me doing what I do with a camera. Nothing more. But I'm glad that some of you enjoyed a good laugh from seeing it. 8)
Oh Livia, this is a great shot of this small flower. It's is very common here, but you did a great job.
I guess I have to go back to your bat pic to read the responses... I loved it.
A lovely capture of a Lantana flower. We grow them in our country to but here it need some shelter ( A glass-house ) in winter. Do you know they also exist in pink ?
Yes, Jason told me on here that in Australia, it is a "weed." Here in the US, we buy it and plant it. Haha! I love it though because not only is it bright , and seems drought resistant, but the butterflies, bees, etc... love to come get a drink from it. I am going to buy a Lantana plant for my yard as soon as Home depot gets them in! I sat by my neighbor's last fall, shooting pics of all sorts of creatures. Figure I need to get my own!
we had several lantanas, and we pulled them all out, but they continue to grow again, although it is beautiful to see hundreds of butterflies emerge from them.
Lantana has such beautiful flowers and comes in different shades. This is a lovely shot of one of them. It is a shame it is considered a noxious weed in Australia.
i almost always include lantana as a perennial choice in my flower beds. Aren't they so pretty?!? And they get pretty big and last all season long.
OK.....i missed yesterday's photo, so I need to leave this pretty flower so I can check out a bat:)
Great shot of a beautiful plant! I thought I'd posted a response yesterday but can't find it. I wondered if these plants are related to the kalanchoe (a house plant which I poisted a shot of recently) - the leaves and floweres are similar. I shall check!
A great, big, not-so-controversial, multi-hued, really flowery "THANK YOU!" to all!
Thank you for taking the time to visit and leave a comment. It's so interesting to read about how this flower is loved and adored in some places and then not so loved and adored in others. I was greatly attracted to their shapes and colors. They look so cute.
oh my, i've taken this flower a hundred times and NONE of it turned out anything like this (which is why none surfaced in 365). Inspite of where it grows, i always find it pretty!
