The Malayan flying fox is a fruit bat. It's the largest bat in the world and can have a wing span of up to 1.8m (5.9 ft). Unlike other bats, it doesn't eat insects but nectar, pollen and fruits. Young flying foxes are born fully furred with their eyes open—and weigh close to one-third of the mother's weight. (Thank goodness this is not the case for people! 8P )
Flying foxes, unlike other bats, do not use echolocation to navigate. They have a very well developed sense of sight and smell.
