Isn't he gorgeous? The first time I saw one of these, all my shots turned out blurry. The second time, I managed to get this, and it makes me happy! 8)
It's a katydid (bush cricket) nymph. About 7mm (0.2in) long. I love the red-and-black, that's a totally cool color combo. His antennae were incredibly long, at least 5 times longer than he was. The adult version of this katydid is green-brown.
Wow - great macro capture, Livia! He is quite handsome. I like your composition and the colors are so incredibly vibrant (I am a big fan of vibrant colors). Well done!
Wow i don't know how you spot all these things, most of them ive never laid eyes on before.....this one is very cool looking =) he does look a bit like a tiny lobster.
Incredible shot... these are the little guys who make such noise, yes? Why do you think his antennae are so long? And why does his camouflage suck? Or maybe his antennae are so long because he doesn't have camouflage... or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about :)
A great, big, black-and-red, longer-than-most, pretty cool "THANK YOU!" to everyone for stopping by! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to write a comment. I'm grateful for your constant support. Again, thank you!
Fav for me! I think I have so e shots of these but in green that I called grasshopper nymph but maybe they were katydid nymph...hmmmm. Great shot! This one is so pretty in red! And I have always marveled at antenna length on these!
