I know, I think the whole point about shooting a butterfly is to show off its beautiful wings. But I was feeling experimental, I wanted to get a different kind of butterfly shot, so I thought I'd get as close as I can get and forget about the wings! Bad idea? XD
This little beauty is a Blue Glassy Tiger. I think. Please view the larger version for greater detail if you like. 8)
Actually, I love the way this composition focuses on the antennae and the face... Amazing how the photographer can control how the viewer sees an object based on what's in the frame and where it's positioned. This works great!
amazing detail & composition! I love all the patterns...wide stripes on wings, pinstripes on legs, polka dots on body, ummm...psychosis in the eye, lol
nope... excellent idea! sure, the wings are "pretty", but me, i love their eyes, legs and antennae... which say so much more about their true personality :) this is awesome!!!
A great, big, thirst-quenching, refreshingly different, up-close-and-personal "THANK YOU!" to everyone for your positive, encouraging comments. Your support is something I am very grateful to have. Thank you so much!
Wow wow wow! Love the eyes on this little one! I think the thing that amazes me the most about your macro shots is how close you get to the critters without them escaping or flying away from the approaching camera! How do you manage that? And then theres the perfect focus and dof! Amazing! Fav!
@aleksandra *LOL* A lot of them do get away before I can take a single shot! The ones you see are the ones that didn't mind hanging around a bit for me. I have no idea why that is... Maybe it's because I never use insect repellent? (I become food for the mosquitoes though! )
This is beautiful Livia. As a huge fan of butterfly photos, I do no think that you need to always include the wings, and this is a beautiful illustration of that point.
Not a bad idea at all. The last butterflie capture I did was of the Shallowtail about to lift off. Barely any of its beautiful wings are in the photo. Was more interested in a different perspective, something you don't see on every butterfly capture. I think this came out great. Its eyes are awesome. Like he's wearing some specialized flight goggles just for butterflies.
