Officially? The tiniest jumping spider I've ever shot! This guy was so tiny, I believe he's just a baby. Barely 3mm (0.1in) long. I wasn't even sure any of my shots would turn out. He was a furry speck, and very hard to get a good focus on.
Those big round eyes are so cute! I wanted to take him home! XD
He was very curious, as jumping spiders tend to be, and came closer and closer. One moment he was on my LCD screen, the next he was gone. So I turned my camera around and, sure enough, there he was, already on my lens!
I blew at him, and he jumped off. I have to admit, I was a little sad to see him go. He was such a tiny baby, that even the ants on the same plant were much bigger than him. The more I see these teeny weeny jumping spiders, the more I love them. I'm so smitten. 8D
PS. There is a bigger version to view, if you'll like to see him better.
Livia, thanks to you and your recent jumping spider campaign, I think I've grown to love the little buggers! And yes, I'll admit it...he is kinda cute too! :-D
I never would have pictured myself oohing and awing over a baby spider before 365. He is sweet though Livia! :-) Wow - how did you get that focus??? Great
This is so cute! I reckon by the time you finsih you will have portraits of the whole family!! They will be able to see the likeness!! A brilliant find and wonderful focus. Fave!
Okay...I'm not a spider fan. May have mentioned before that I was bitten by a spider and had a terrible allergic reaction but am not certain which kind of spider it was, so that's left me less than crazy about them all. However, your photos of these spiders are causing them to grow on me!! Not sure how I feel about that. ;)
So gorgeous - I wish we had them here - mind you just because I haven't seen them doesn't mean a lot! but I'm pretty sure they've avoided N.Z. - Huge Fav
How adorable is he?!! Love their curiosity ... beautiful capture of those wonderful eyes. Your view of the "tiny world of photography" is so fascinating, Livia. Your love for these insects has set you outside the box from the rest. Very unique and exquisite.
What a cute little spider. Amazing that you got such clarity of him. Love those eyes. I may not be squashing too many spiders in the future if I know they look like this. What camera are you using to take your photos? I want to have macro on my camera to capture things like this. FAV
you're back in the PP, kiddo. you still got it, yes! i love red dragonflies. when i was a little girl, i got lost chasing a red one. this is beautiful!
Just Perfect! Fav! OMG Livia its such an itsy, bitsy Spider!! and those big eyes take up most of his body! Your focus and strength just amazes me! Great, Great Shot Liv!!
Awwwww! That is one of the cutest things I've ever seen! :) His eyes look almost bigger than he is! (Love the bit of the story when he wanted to investigate your camera!)
You have even got the light in his eyes! As you say, totally adorable and he could be squashed with a finger tip! Here is forever ..fav..imagine 49 favs on your last one - I've got famous friends!
@darsphotos For macro shots, I use my Sony NEX-C3 which is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (but not a dSLR) with the Sony 30mm f/3.5 macro lens. If you want to get a macro lens, I suggest getting one with a longer focal length, say, around 100mm. Because with a longer focal length, you don't have to get so close to the macro subject. 8)

@myautofocuslife Thank you for the info, Llvia. I have a Sony Cyber-shot so the lens is not interchangeable and have talked to the manufacturer and was told that they took the dedicated macro off the camera I bought so they could put other features on it. In the $400 range they did this to the Canon and Nikon as well and my budget at the time. I was told by another 365er that the Olympus, in the same price range has two dedicated macro settings and once mine is paid off may invest in that camera for macro shooting. So disappointed as you cannot put either camera in your purse and go. Thanks again for the information. I will tuck it aside for the future when I can get a more expensive camera. Shoot, once I pay off this one and another one later I could have.
A great, big, jumping, fuzzy, baby-cute and contemplative "THANK YOU!" to everyone! I'm so happy that you've enjoyed meeting this little baby jumper! He was incredible. A tiny thing looking very vulnerable, and yet very curious about his environment. 365 has changed the way I see jumping spiders because I'm now in love with them.
Again, thank you! You are all so generous with your time and support. Please know that I am appreciative, and grateful!
Wow...stunning capture. Great find too. I wonder if they come smaller then that? Only thing you have left at this point is to try to catch one crawling out of its egg sac
Tiny AND cute - what a devastating combination - no wonder you're so smitten with him ... or her ;-)
he looks SO tiny! cute!
