Happiness is being able to shoot a lizard! I like lizards! 8D
This is a changeable lizard. (View large for exciting details! XD ) It's male, on account of his swollen cheeks. He was sitting on a fern that was growing on a tree and I wouldn't have spotted him if I hadn't looked up. I had to stand up as straight as I could while holding my camera up as high as my arms could reach to take shots.
Changeable lizards are so called because they can change their color. This is most apparent during mating season. These lizards are not native to Singapore but, because they are more aggressive, they have displaced the green crested lizard which is a native lizard. I have a shot of the green crested lizard here: http://365project.org/myautofocuslife/365/2012-04-08
In other news, I made a little update to my profile page by adding a few new comments in the "review" section. ;D
He is utterly lovely - beautiful detail especially for such an uncooperative sitter! - Is the colour change related to sexual display or camoflage? I am wondering if they are related to chameleons - I do know that our little native lizards here vary in colour according to their diet but are not actually colour-change artists. (I love lizards ((whisper)) & snakes)
@kittikat The color change is most apparent during the mating season when they turn orange. But they also change colors according to their environment. Changeable lizards and chameleons are from different families: the changeable lizard belongs to the Agamidae family while the chameleon is from the Chamaeleonidae family. There's more information on the changeable lizard here: http://www.naturia.per.sg/buloh/verts/changeable_lizard.htm
He's beautiful! Wonderful capture of him. Looked at your other lizard pics too...all great! Thanks for all you info, it's great to learn more about the things we see.
Fantastic detail, it seems ready to pop out of my screen. Love the update on your profile. All those comments richly deserved 8-) Fav (just for being you)
Beautiful lizard and great capture. What a shame they have displaced your beautiful, green native lizards, though. Where do these ones originally come from?
He's beautiful ... great clarity and detail. Does he ever "blush?" Just wondering. lol Like your new update. It's got attitude. Can I come over and get of candid capture of the "new" Livia?!! :)
@girlie These lizards were probably introduced into Singapore in the 1980s, probably from Thailand and Malaysia because they are native to continental Asia up to the northern parts of Peninsular Malaysia.
I am skittish about lizards- I think it's because they look a lot like snakes! Great shot- and I admire your determination to capture him with your camera!
A great, big, undoubtedly lizard-friendly "THANK YOU!" to all!
I can't help but get unseasonably happy whenever I spot a lizard. I find them very cool. Thank you very much for stopping by! I am grateful for your support and encouragement.
Love the profile update. :)
