He's my Revoltech Professor Layton figure. Highly posable, has changeable faces and different hands, and is all of 13cm (5in) when seated.
Professor Layton is a Nintendo DS game. I'm addicted to them. They are a puzzle-adventure series. To get through the story, which features a mystery that the Professor is called upon to solve, you need to play through many puzzles that pop up along the way. These puzzles are logic-based. I love puzzles, and I love the Professor! He's voiced by Christopher Robin Miller, an American actor whose British accent for the Professor is, um, delicious! XD~
These games have great stories. Over time, you become attached to the Professor and the other characters. I am not ashamed to say that every single game so far has had me in tears by the end of the game. The stories are fabulous that way, they have great emotional depth. As well as beautiful animated cutscenes and music.
The latest game, which is the 5th in the series called Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, will be released in the US and Europe next month. But, as I am a rabid fangirl and had no patience to wait for the English version, I played the original Japanese version of the game when it was released last year! I had to buy a Japanese 3DS player just to play it. XD
Just to give you an idea, here's a puzzle from Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box: Eight people are playing a communication game. One person has to get the message across to seven other people. It takes one minute to pass along the message, and each time the message is spoken, it can have only one recipient. Using these rules, what's the shortest amount of time in minutes for the message to pass to all seven other players?
This is one of the easier puzzles. They get harder, the deeper you progress into the story. I'll post the answer tomorrow. 8)
Professor Layton trivia: The Professor, a perfect gentleman with a cheerful demeanor, teaches archaeology in the fictional Gressenheller University in London. He loves a good cup of tea, solves every puzzle that comes his way, and is never seen without his top hat. Thousands of Layton fangirls around the world love him! XD
I love my DS but haven't played Prof Layton ....................yet! I love the sudoku game, the brain training and the germ buster game attached to the brain train. I wish I could get angry birds for the DS
Very cute. I love puzzles, but if that is one of the easier puzzles I would not be good at this ; ) I agree with Allison if it can be given by two different people to two others at the same time???
I recognised this chap straight away. My son is at the moment immersed in Prof. Layton. I'll hand the puzzle over to him. @claireuk I'm sure my son mentioned that he's getting Angry Birds for his DS the other day. Will let you know if I'm right.
Happy to meet the professor! I've never heard of him, but your commentary has me fascinated! I've have to google him for more details! Love any puzzles that require logic.
I live the way you've captured him, so suave and sophisticated! Sounds like a fun game! My son has a 3DS but there is little chance of getting a turn on it! Lol!
I love video games and have heard of Professor Layton but I've never played one before. Thanks for the explanation, I've always wondered what the gameplay was like. I can tell that you are a huge Layton fan! Great shot of the professor!
I love your 'toys' and i love logic puzzle games too, it often takes a few puzzles to get into the mindspace of the game but first up i would have said 3 minutes too.
This is fascinating. I wonder how many ofbthe kids at my school know the professor. We are working hard to encourage creative innovators and it appears this program would fit right in.
My son and I absolutely LOVE the Professor Layton games!!! We've got all of them as well, though I am definitely NOT going to get the Japanese version - ha ha - you are funny!! Where did you get the "action figure?" Do you have a "Luke" too? I must say, little Luke can be annoying sometimes... :)
@losthorizon If you're going to play the Professor Layton games, I'd highly suggest playing them in the order that they were released. You will enjoy the character development better that way. The first 3 games (Curious Village, Diabolical Box and Unwound Future, in that order) take place "today". The next 3 games (Last Specter, Miracle Mask, Azran Legacies, and that last one will be released first in Japan next year) are actually the prequel. Don't spoil yourself reading the wiki, especially about Unwound Future, because it's a wonderful story that you shouldn't be spoiled for. If you love puzzles, you'll love these games. 8)
@pjonas Oooh! Hello, fellow Layton fans!!! XD I bought the figure from HobbyLink Japan last June. It's been sold out. You can probably buy a pre-owned version from eBay auctions. This Revoltech figure is the best one, so if you want a Layton figure, make sure it's this one. Nope, there's no Luke figure. So you're going to buy Miracle Mask when it's released next month? 8) I can't decide if I want to play the English version as well. It would mean that I have to get another 3DS (since the players are region-locked and I can't play the English release on my Japanese 3DS) and I'm not sure if I want to be owning so many players. XD But, I long to hear Chris Miller's voice, he does Layton so well! 8)
A great, big, toy-happy, fangirl-ish "THANK YOU!" to everyone! I love toys. I didn't have many toys when I was a kid, so I think I'm compensating for it now that I'm an adult and can afford to buy myself a few toys. XD Thank you so much for putting up with my fangirling. I tried to restrain myself and not squeal too much. 8D Hope you had fun with the puzzle. Thank you for stopping by!
Lovely shot - and the game sounds great. I used to enjoy computer games but somewhere along the way I lost my patience for them. Maybe this winter :-).
Well, he is a very handsome fellow indeed! I am TERRIBLE at logic problems and would probably not make it past 1 minute in the game. Did I mention that I am not very good at hand-eye games such as this as well? lol So I will not even try to venture a guess with this one- however I will stay tuned and read it tomorrow!
I love your shots of him! And I loved computer games like this in the late 1990s and around that time...Myst, Riven, The Neverhood, Grim Fandango...but each time the computer changed, the games would no longer play. There is a site that lets you download some of them but I think they do not always work well. Is this game in PC or just Nintendo DS? I want to play!
I knew exactly what this was when I seen the little thumbnail. Love these kind of games and Professor Layton is my favorite DS game all though I haven't played in a while. Awesome shot of this figure...this made me smile =)
I love this shot, fab:0)
You did make a very nice portrait pic of him. I`m sure he will be pleased with it
