This crab spider (5mm) was not willing to pose. He moved to the underside of the leaf and clung on stubbornly. So I flipped the leaf over with my left hand and held it that way while I took this shot with the camera in my right hand (resting the camera on my left arm to stabilize it). I have a pretty stubborn nature too. 8D
Crab spiders have really-really tiny eyes. If you view the larger version, you should be able to see them more clearly. Bug Guide has a wonderful guide to the different eye arrangements of different types of spiders: http://bugguide.net/node/view/84423
He looks like he is scowling! Good thing he's so small otherwise you could have really been in for serious trouble! Kudos to you for being so stubborn!! :-)
OK I'm going to try to use some different lingo here so pls correct me if I'm wrong. great dof and Macro. Love the colors. he looks like an angry fellow you should put some of these in the scary theme what is scarier than a little spider? oh yeah a BIG ONE! LOL
You've really backed him into a defensive posture and with that huge eye of your camera staring at him he's entitled to look scared. Love your stubborn persistence 8-)
Crab spiders are almost as cool as jumping spiders. We have one here that is bright yellow but I haven't been successful in getting a shot. This is a fun shot.
Wonderful...when viewed regular size his eyes look angry....like he is being stubborn on purpose! When viewed large he looks very "Fu Man Chu" if that makes sense! Great macro.
LOL, he has a cute little scowly face -- "OK, you can take my photo, but I don't have to like it!" Very nice macro, excellent crystal clear focus as usual! :)
I love the composition here. Maybe I'm going blind but when I first saw it, I didn't even realize it was a spider. I thought I was looking at a canoe shaped boat with an interesting decoration on the end of it. LOL
This brings two things to mind. Firstly that it looks 3D on my screen, because of your incredible dof. Secondly that it makes me think this guy is the James Bond or Indiana Jones of the Crab Spider world, clinging on to avoid dropping into the seething green abyss, while the evil Blofeld looks on. +f for me, composition and focus incredible yet again.
A great, big, stubbornly grateful "THANK YOU!" to everyone for stopping by! This was a memorable shoot, partly because I think he's the best looking crab spider I've seen so far and partly because he was really patient (stubborn?) with me. Thank you for your visit and comments, I appreciate them very much. 8)
Glad you won the stubborn fight.
Thanks for you nice comment
Your stubbornness won though coz it gave you a great pose in the end :)
thanks
Fantastic shot, focus and composition are perfect =)
