I went to Aylesbury with my eldest son - a keen player. His team, High Wycombe (playing in green) won, securing a place in the local league cup. I have a few action shots of today's game. Here is a lineout. (Actually my son is not in this shot).
The line-out is performed when the ball goes off the field. The teams line up side by side. The team that did not put the ball out of play throws it in down between the two lines. The teams jump for the ball. They are allowed to lift one player to get the ball on high throws (like here). The winner of the jump scoops the ball out to their players who then can take it forward. The assisted jump is actually a skilled piece of team play and is quite legal. Nice one Wycombe!

@brumbe - the 'line-out' involves the players lifting a team member so several people are involved. It is a much practiced and skilled activity and they do get very high. Great fun to photograph too!
WOW - impressive! I have never followed this game but I hear it is very exciting! Congrats to your son and his team! I miss the days of following and being involved in sports with my kids! Enjoy every minute of it!
Being the American I am, I know nothing about rugby...I know it is played here, but I have never seen it. What is a line out? Are they holding them up in the air? Wow. Great action shot!
