Mushroom- n. 1. Any of various fleshy fungi or the class Basidioomycota, having an umbrella-shaped cap borne on a stalk, esp. any of the edible kinds. As a verb: to multiply, grow, or expand rapidly.
The mushroom population in our yard has mushroomed greatly this year due to all the rain. The proof is in these pictures! It seems I discover a different one every week. I'm curious to find out what kinds they are. I apologize for another collage, but I didn't want to bore you with myriads of mushroom pictures!
@kimmiesue Thanks Kim! Yes- they have all been in my yard- not all at once, but many of them did overlap. It seems every rain storm brings out another kind. The ones that grow up through the rocks are the ones that surprise me the most.
@roejan Thank you Roe Jan! I've been so amazed at all the different kinds this year- I'm really thinking about getting a book so I can identify them. Maybe if they're edible even try one or two???
@digitalrn@meganelizabethh@allie912 Thank you Rick- I especially like the "hairy" one (even though it's a bit scary too!). Thank you Megan! Thank you so much for the fav Allison! I am going to try and identify them- maybe on the internet first, and then in the public library if that doesn't work. But I might even just go by a book- they keep popping up and I'm always curious about which ones they are!
@wdement No, I haven't Wendy- I thought I might have one in the collage here, but it turned out to be "Helvella Crispa" or White Saddle. That's the one in the upper right hand corner. I still have a bunch to figure out and when I do, I'll edit my commentary to include the identifications. According to the site I looked this up on, the White Saddles are edible but poor, so I don't think I'll be digging that one up!
