Q: What does a dedicated photographer do when a hurricane blows out the power? A: She uses the opportunity to learn about new settings on her camera.
Yes, Irene may have taken out the power for a while, but I decided to use it as an opportunity to conquer yet another s-challenge. So with candles lit on the table and a my camera manual in hand, I learned about the different settings for low light and adjusting the exposure compensation. Ta-da!
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @httpgeffed Thanks Colleen! @karenann - lol- I try to be- actually at first I was complaining and then I thought, "I need to do something to take my thoughts off of the electricity!" And yes, we are fine! @mrssmith Thank you Carla- now I just have to remember how I did, so that I can do it again! @annaruth Thank you Anna! @sanera Thanks Samantha- yes, it would have been nice to turn the lights back on, but they came on today, so I'm happy with that.
Thanks everyone for your well-wishes and thoughts for our safety. We weren't really in line for the worst of the storm, but we did get some water in our crawl space. Thankfully that has gone down today, so now that the electricity is back on the dehumidifier will do the rest.
Wonderful flame shot! I have been thinking of you the past couple of days. Glad to hear that everyone there is ok and that too much damage wasn't done. Welcome back!!!
@cdford It seemed so strange to not come on 365, post a picture and leave comments on others yesterday. Thankfully I'd posted my picture early "just in case", but I missed seeing everyone else's. Thank you so much Cindy for your thoughts and prayers. I know they made a difference. I had complete peace that we'd make it through this storm even when we thought we might not get power until Wed! And we really didn't experience the worst of it as those on the coast did. And I think from now on, I will turn every power loss into a photo opp if I can!
@ariene@daveanajao@rogley8@pandorasecho Thank you Ariene, Dave, Richard and Dixie! I really appreciate all the comments and my goodness- two favs! I'm thrilled!!
@alia_801@sarasdadandmom Thank you Alia and Sarah's Dad (love that name!) I am glad to have had the chance to learn about these settings on my camera. I'm starting to feel like I've got some of my old SLR camera options back now that I know where to find them in the digital camera. And thanks for the view Sarah's Dad!!
@jadecurtis_x3 Thank you so much Jade! And thanks for the follow. I'll be doing the same for you and I look forward to seeing the world through your lens!
@simster Thanks Simmy- this was a really fun challenge. I didn't thnk I'd be able to do a month of pictures on subjects all starting with S- but I did! And it just so happened that the hurricane coincided with this particular assignment. We had to have the cameras lit! The hard part was waiting for the electricity to come back on so I could upload the photos!!
