Strong

I can't believe I'm posting my last S challenge picture. I don't know where this month went! But here it is- the 31st S picture on the last day of August. Somehow it seems appropriate that I am finishing on the word "strong". Since we have an athlete in the family, the phrase "finish strong; finish well" always comes to mind. So of course I was hoping to post a National Geographic/AP worthy photo for the last day. Whether it's not my talent level or the subject matter wasn't there, I don't know. What I do know is that as I thought about this word throughout the month, one singular thought kept coming to mind. It was penned by the wisest man in the world, King Solomon, over 2200 years ago. He wrote, "A cord of three strands cannot be broken." That principle seems to be true in many things. The more plys in a piece of paper, the stronger it is. There are some types of woods that are layered and they too are strong. When you bite into a piece of Seven-layer Cake, you certainly get a full dose of flavor (and sugar!). Thus the strength of a cord is even stronger when it is composed of several strands. So while Jeff and I were running an errand in the local home improvement store today, I knew I must find a cord to photograph for the word strong. It's not a masterpiece, but it is a fitting finish to this challenge because since joining 365 I have seen the strength of this community over and over again. Through pictures and words of encouragement; through posts and discussions in search of missing members; to personal testimonies and life stories which inspire and affirm hope, I am finishing strong because of this community. Thanks to all my followers who gladly ploughed through a month of S pictures and faithfully commented on them. And thanks to Dave, Alia and Richard for being my S-challege buddies- you three are so much fun to compare photos with! So in true s-fashion, I say "So-long and sayonara to August and all those swell esses!"

Great shot! I like the processing and your thoughts behind the image too. I love the idea of challenge buddies :) It does feel like we have a special link now. (I spotted someone else has started the challenge today, so maybe there'll be a new generation of s-challenge buddies out there too!)

Oh, I just now saw this...I am catching up today, as you can tell. I have been back at work teaching school, a long commute to and from, and all my mom's estate business to do. Anyway, I wondered what this was in thumbnail and read your story. Wow. It moved me. It is so true. Nice work on your challenge!

Thanks MaryBeth- I enjoyed doing this challenge. I didn't know if I could shoot a predetermined subject for 30 days or not. It was fun and I picked up some fantastic followers in the process as well as some great people to follow!

A great shot and a great reflection. I'm finding that 365 so often gives me 'thoughts for the day' to ponder on - and they so enrich my life. Thankyou for yours here.

@jmj Thanks Jennifer- I know what you mean. I have often read the thoughts of others here and been moved to pray or think about what was written and God has used it to speak to my heart. I am thankful that my simple words have enriched you- that is certainly God at work in both of us!
