Feathers are rather marvelous things. They don't look all that sturdy. They don't appear to be insulated well. It's hard to believe they can sustain the weight of a bird in flight. They range from gaudy to understated in color and size. Some appear to be more decorative than practical. Some are so large you can't miss them and others are so tiny they appear to be one single shiny coat. When you pick one up off the ground, do you wonder who lost it and how? Do you know what kind of feathered friend dropped it by looking at its color and size? Do you brush it against your face to feel its soft caress on your cheek, or do you let it flutter gently back to where it was lying before it caught your eye just to see the light dance off of its gentle edges? If you are fascinated by a feather; if you turn it between your fingers and hold it up to examine it; if you dream of gossamer wings flapping and fluttering so that it came loose; if you can see it on a canvas in your imagination, in muted tones or brilliant hues, then you have the heart of a child and the eyes of a photographer.
@crickle1969 Thanks Crickle! I did do some processing on this one. Sharpened it, pulled up the contrast somewhat and then posterized it. After that I painted in the red- several times to achieve the brightness. I think I would have preferred a more crimson red than fire engine red, but that's what the program will do. So, thanks! I think you'll get a good feather shot- just keep looking you'll find it. @jml0306 Thank you Joseph! I really appreciate all your kind comments!
@digitalrn Thank you Rick- it's definitely a wondrous world made by a wonderful God! @httpgeffed haha Colleen- you are funny! I guess it's not so bad to have the mind of a child either- there's a lot to be said for imagination!
@allie912 Thank you Allison! Sometimes I put the picture up and then just sit at the computer and stare at it thinking, "What can I say about this?" lol Then the words just come out. Glad you liked them!
Love your interpretation of feathers. I've always been fascinated by them as well. Lovely photo, unique processing. Mine shows up as crimson on my computer.
@cimes1 Thank you Carole! It's the most layered processing I've done so far- see the post I wrote to Crickle for full details if you're interested! And I'm glad the spine is showing up darker. I just wanted it to stand out and red, black and white are power colors, so red seemed the natural choice. Thanks again for the view and comment- much appreciated!!
