Damp and drizzly today, but a little bit of sun is now peeking through the clouds as the day draws to a close. I didn't feel like going out while it was raining so I was looking for a shot close to home. The wet leaves on my deck made for some nice patterns and subdued colors, so that's what I decided to shoot. We still have more green than color on the trees, but I'm looking forward to those fall colors really busting out soon. A few more damp and rainy days like this might do the trick.
we have no sunshine and its been drizzling all day long.. tell me these leaves aren't from a red maple tree are they?..looks more like tree that carries nuts if I'm correct. love the purplelish color of the leaves on your deck.
@httpgeffed I'm jealous Colleen! @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @bruni No, these are oak leaves, but I'm not sure which kind. I want to say Pin Oak or White Oak, but I'm don't think either of those is right. I'll have to ask my husband! He remembers the trees better than I do! I can tell you though that it drops acorns. Thanks for the compliment Bruni!
@olivetreeann I believe both red and white oak trees have acrons..now it just depemndsw on in what area you live.. thanks for getting back to me on my question.
@dbjohnson@allie912 Thanks Dean and Allison. I photographed them as I found them. I didn't move them or straighten them out. I find that nature has its own way of arranging things. Perhaps better than I could! @bruni You're welcome Bruni- we live on the eastern side of Pennsylvania in an area known as the Poconos (for the Pocono Mts.). My home is not too far from the Delaware Water Gap- the section of the Delaware River which makes a jagged cut between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. If you want to find it on a map, it would be located near Columbia, NJ and Stroudsburg, Pa. (You might even find Shawnee, Pa. which is closer to the border.) I think we have both types of oak around here. I'm curious now, so I'll let you know what I find out!
@bruni Bruni these are the leaves of the Northern Red Oak. We also have White Oak in our backyard too- but they have rounded edges on their leaves and there are none of them in this picture.
@pandorasecho Thank you Dixie- yes it could make a card or something. @steeler Thanks Howard! @michaelelliott Thank you Michael! @karenann Thanks again Karenann. I laugh because it's become a great background for several pictures and now I really don't want Jeff to get around to doing it!
@adobewaters Thank you so much Adobe Waters. Right now our fall colors are mostly browns, but within the week we should have the full spectrum. I appreciate your view and comment!
@prttblues Thanks Bev. Sometiimes my days are like yours where I can't get out and go places, so I'm glad there's enough interesting things around here to photograph and keep me on my toes as far as being observant! @changingtides Thanks Allie! My peeling deck does make a great backdrop!
