I was helping out my friend Judy today. She has some beautiful things in her home. Sometimes she asks me to research things on the internet for her because she doesn't like the computer. This is the detail of a glass in a set she owns. One of them has broken and she's hoping to find another one to replace it. Retro glasses are very popular among collectors. Some of the designs are comical, some thematic and others just decorative. Sets were made from the 40's all the way through to the 70's. It's going to take me awhile to find this one because we're not sure who manufactured it or what era they are from. That's the nature of detective work though. You keep plodding along until something connects.
This really makes a beautiful photo, Ann! Funny how we collect things that later become almost pieces of "art!" I revealed on my photo some of my favorite things today and maybe someday my quilts will be collector items!! Love the color and clarity of this glass.
@karenann It's been a busy day so I'm just getting to looking at everyone's pictures. I love quilts, so I'm looking forward to seeing yours Karenann! Yes- funny how some common things end up being treasures. I think that just proves they were special all along! @cimes1 Thanks Carole- I'm familiar with Replacements.com but didn't know they did glasses too- I thought they only did dishes. I'm writing myself a note right now! @dmariewms Thanks Marie- I hadn't really thought about that. I was drawn to this shot because of the colors- but you're right. It's a nice change of pace looking at the detail and not the whole glass. @potsbypam Thanks Pam- it is a pretty one because of the way the colors are graded (although you can't fully see that in this shot). @annaruth Thanks Anna!
Ann, there are some sites where you can scan and send an image and they are really good at finding the pattern and maker. It looks like something from the 60's
Very nice glass - I enjoy going through shops looking for old glasses and dishes. I have a few "sets of 3 or 5" because one is broken -- and that is okay - because it is so nice to be using them .
@digitalrn Thanks Rick- that's what I'm thinking. I have found 2 styles- one from Anchor Hocking and the other from Fenton that were similar and one was from the late 60's, the other from the early 70's. So, I may even go to their websites and send the picture to them. @karenann Thanks Karenann- loved looking at your treasures! @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @friendie Thanks Carole- Judy likes to mix them. She sets a beautiful table!
@steeler Thanks Howard! @geertje Thanks Geertje! @alia_801 Thanks Alia! @nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole!
It's not what I'd usually post, but it does summarize my day- and that's part of 365, so here it is!
@melorac Thanks Carole! You figured me out!! @prttblues Thanks Bev! I didn't notice that aspect of the photo until I uploaded it! @jmj Thanks Jennifer. 365 really is great- lots of special people here! @michaelelliott Thanks Michael! You know, I'd like them all to be wham-bang! But some days are just not like that. Some days are a little more low-key. But I like how this shot sums up the day.
@mrssmith Thanks Carla! I've actually learned a lot about old dishes and such from Judy. It's been fun helping her out. You'd be surprised by what the lighting actually was- a bare bulb in the basement!
I love this kind of research. Yesterday I went to our school store to buy jacket for my husband but they were out of his size in the styke he wanted and weren't getting any more. So I tracked the manufacturer down on the web and found the same product (without the school logo of course) and it was on sale. I felt victorious! I wish you the same success in your search.
I love the photo when it is a great photo AND journalistic too! This is a great memento to remember your day helping your friend. WHen I was young, McDonalds did the "Peanuts' characters drinking glasses...I'll bet that set might go for a lot now, but dont' have them!
