Well, what do you know? It finally snowed! Granted it was really only a dusting, but it was visible, gave everything a nice, white coat and fell from the sky for about 10 minutes! So while I entertained the neighbors with my antics at catching this little white miracle with my "new to me" camera, I kept humming in my head the song "Snow" from White Christmas which was written by Mark William Greaney and sung by Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen.
Snow
It won't be long before we'll all be there with snow.
Snow
I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with snow.
Snow
I want to clear a path and lift a spade of snow.
Snow
Oh, to see a great big man entirely made of snow.
Where it's snowing all winter through
That's where I want to be.
Snowball throwing that's what I'll do
How I'm longing to ski through the snow oh-oh-oh-oh.
Those glistening houses that seem to be built of snow
Snow
Oh, to see a mountain covered with a quilt of snow.
What is Christmas with no snow
No white Christmas with no snow
Snow
I'll soon be there with snow
I'll wash my hair with snow
And with a spade of snow
I'll build a man made of snow
I'd love to stay up with you but I recommend a little shuteye
Go to sleep and dream of snow, snow, snow, snow, snow!
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @karenann Thanks Karenann! It's a little past Christmas and not quite an "official" snow storm, but it certainly does the job for the treasure hunt word. I really didn't think I was going to be able to get this one!
What a great shot! ~ Now I have that song stuck in my head! LOL! We watched White Christmas over the holidays with my kids, they kept saying how old is this movie? Cause we'd told them it was made in the 1950's. ~
Very neat! We had one real snowfall last year, and I was out in the middle of it... all of my neighbors were twitching the curtains aside to see what I was up to.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! @sanera Thanks Samantha- lol How children perceive time is always a fun thing to see. I'm glad they liked the movie though. @annaruth Thanks Anna! When it really started to come down I dropped everything and ran out to take pictures! @nanascraps Thanks Barbara- so glad you stopped in!! @bkbinthecity Thanks Brian! @dmariewms lol Marie! I can just about see that image in my mind!!!
The sky looks like as if you would a lot more snow...I know it feels good when everything is white and clean looking..love to see the snowflakes falling from the sky..beautiful picture Ann. we have a beautiful German song at Christmas time about snowflakes..wish I could translate it but it might lose its meaning.
@rhubbard Thank you Richard. I wasn't expecting the flash to go off when I took the picture, but the setting I was using did it automatically. It had an interesting effect on the shot and the snowflakes glittered as the light from the flash hit them. @kloud Thank you Bonnie! I really love looking up into the falling snow- so that was my first inclination as I considered a shot of our first official winter snowfall. @steeler Wow Howard- thank you!!!!! @inertie Thank you so much Inertia! @digitalrn Thank you Rick. The lighting at dusk has a way of changing the look of even the most common of things into some fanciful. @simster Thank you Simmy! I'm always looking up! @pandorasecho Thank you Dixie! I had not really thought of it that way. I was focused on the beautiful colors of dusk, but am totally seeing why everyone is reacting that way now! @bruni Thank you Bruni! I took this picture at dusk while the sun was giving out its last few rays of light, so the sky looks dark because of that. It wasn't too dark as the snow began to fall and we only had a dusting, but it did make everything look quite pretty. The song sounds beautiful, but I understand the nature of translating and how the language can lose something in the process. @woot Thank you Davide! What a lovely thing to say!
@potsbypam Thank you Pam! @alia_801 Thanks Alia- it was really cool taking the picture as the flash reflected off the snow and made all the snowflakes sparkle like glitter.
