The Grand Old Lady, with her weathered paint, glistens in the midday sun. It's been a mild winter and today is no exception to the unusual weather we've experienced this year. But I'm not complaining! It makes it possible for me to wander around in a light sweater with my keys stuffed in the pocket of my jeans. It's always tempting when encountering a building of this size to focus on the "BIG" picture. But I also want to pay attention to the details. So as I wander about the grounds, I am searching for some "little thing" to catch my eye. A gentle breeze draws my eyes to some delicate grasses growing alongside the barn. They shiver and twirl under the bright sun. One little stalk, with its shadow stands out against the weathered wood. Like its grand companion, it fights against wind and weather, refusing to succumb to the way of the natural world. Yet in spite of its slow demise, and perhaps because of it, this little plant has beauty, grace and character.
