Jeff and I went for a drive through Worthington State Park in NJ today, stopping along the way so that I could photograph points of interest. I was all set to upload a shot of some fishermen amusing themselves on the banks of the Delaware River (for amusement) when I decided it just wasn't the "shot of the day". Jeff was looking over my shoulder while I scrolled through my pictures and said he felt this was THE shot (out of over 200 taken!). Although I liked a similar one just a little better, this was Jeff's personal favorite. He also came up with the A word to describe it.
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @karenann Thanks Karenann! Not for me. I'm usually more particular. Part of the problem was that in some spots I couldn't always tell how the shots came out, so I took extras "just in case!" @deniseinindy Thanks Denise! @juleswoome Thank you Julie! @dmariewms Thank you Marie!
if it were to me.. I would restore all abandonned houses.. and take care of them forever.. lives.. lifestyles.. memories.. they have a soul these houses.. I feel a real attraction to them.. nice picture sad situation..
@summerfield Thank you Vikki! Yes, he does and they're a really nice blue too! @beachradish Thank you Beachradish! @filsie65 Thank you Phil! @inertie Thank you Inertia! @alia_801 Thank you Alia! Accolades appreciated! @digitalrn Thank you Rick!
We're not absolutely certain what this structure was used for. It wasn't a house; that stood at the front of the property. A chicken coop was a few yards away and there were also two storage type sheds by the house. It might have housed small animals like goats and rabbits, but there was no way of telling since the inside was gutted.
Great effects! I do believe it's a good shot as it really has a story to tell. It sounds like a great day. It's so hard to pick just one from 200. I have that same problem.
@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! There is no processing on this one. I shot it in sepia and was able to capture the sunlight as is. @annaluceya Thanks Anna. I love the ability my p & s has to switch from color, to black and white, and to sepia. It allows me to take several shots of the same subject but in different ways. This was a natural for the sepia, so I didn't have to do any post picture processing at all. @mrssmith Thanks Carla. I don't usually shoot that many. I really want to see what I'm taking and compose a shot rather than shoot randomly and hope I get something good. But it was quite sunny yesterday and there were times I couldn't quite make out what was on the viewing screen. I don't really like the view finder on my p/s. It's not as accurate to look through that as it is to look at the screen. So I ended up taking a lot of extra shots "just in case" the first one didn't work. I deleted at least 50 immediately when I uploaded them. And there's still a few more I'll probably take out as I review them again over the next few days. Sometimes the editing is tough, but when I've got that many, I know there's going to be quite a few that aren't post-worthy at all! The best usually jump right off the screen.
@httpgeffed Thank you Colleen! Great minds you know... @cimes1 Thank you Carole- surprisingly enough it's not termite infested, just terribly weather-beaten. @kimmistephens Thank you Kimmi! I'm not sure what it was used for, but it makes a great photo subject now.
I often turn to my husband for the final selection. It is nice to have another eye with good instincts. This shot is a beauty, especially the way you have processed it. Perfect for "abandoned"
This picture was shot in sepia tone and with the camera in such a position as to capture the solar flare. Other than a minor amount of sharpening, it's sooc.
@prttblues Thanks Bev! One thing I love about my little p & s is that I have the option to shoot b/w, color or sepia tone at the touch of a button, so this is technically sooc. I did sharpen it slightly as I've noticed that my pictures lose a little of their edge when I upload.
@sarasdadandmom Thank you very much Terry! Yes, the stories it could tell. @potsbypam Thank you so much Pam! I do like taking pictures of them. Very rich in texture, strong emotions and details.
@crickle1969 Oh we would!! If I'm ever out in St. Louis visiting my friend JoAnn again, I will definitely let you know! And if you ever vacation in the Poconos (Eastern PA.), you let me know!
@eudora Thank you so much Diane! The building really leant itself to be shot in sepia. That's one of the things I love about digital is that I can take the shot several ways and then choose the best. I did take this building in black and white and color as well, but the sepia really captured the dilapidated and run down condition it was in to a T.
