Well, I'm finally using one of my wildcards!! I suppose this shot could still be considered a macro, but I'd rather call it an M.
There is something that fascinates me about most plants- that is their never-ending pursuit for light. Somewhere from the depths, the seed or spore senses there is something better above its pocket in the soil. There must be an incredible amount of pressure and resistance to be contended with as it climbs to the top and yet that plant remains undaunted by the task. It rises, pushes and persists until that shoot, that tender bud breaks through the surface. Like a child who's held his breath too long under the surface of the water, the mushroom bursts through the ground and opens its "hands" to the sun, sucking in both air and sunlight; exclaiming to the world, "I'm here!"
gotta get that book going, ann. i enjoyed the narrative. since i'm lazy to write these days, a friend suggested to me that i can combine my writing and photography by writing a story based on a photograph, vignettes, if you will. my question was would my photograph be good enough? you, however, would have no problem doing that as your photos have more depths and your prose is one of the best, and i have read so much in my lifetime.
great use of the lighting in here. is that an acorn on the left?
Love the lighting! I just realised that I managed the whole months challenge without using a wild card, now I feel cheated! Suppose I could always do each wild card for my extra album...
If weeds can work there way through asphalt they certainly get easily through mulch.. but here we're looking at M..mushrooms look good...I wish I knew which ones are edible. I wouldn't trust going by a book.
@zshadowwalker Thank you Adrian! @netkonnexion Thank you Netkonnexion! Some cropping solved two problems I had initially- a large dark area (our wood pile) on the left, and a shorter version of this mushroom in the foreground (which was washed out in the sunlight). I kept fiddling with it until I ended up with this which I really like. @sangwann Thanks Dione- it's the late afternoon sun. It always looks pretty in our wooded yard. @denisedaly Thank you Denise! @digitalrn Thanks Rick! Plants and animals- even humans! The wonders of God's creation never ceases to amaze. @summerfield Thank you Vikki! I have thought about taking some of my 365 shots and musings and putting them together but I have no idea who would even be the right publisher for something like that. But you are so encouraging! And yes, that is an acorn cap on the left. @salza lol Sally- About half way through I was pleased with myself for not using one but when I pulled out this one for M, I realized there were a couple I'd really wanted to do! Oh well...some other time now! @bruni Thanks Bruni! This fellow has actually pushed his way up through our gravel covered yard, not mulch, but it's not that different from coming up in a garden. I know what you mean about the edible mushrooms. There are so many that grow here and I always wonder if they could be eaten. But knowing how sick you can get from eating the wrong ones is enough to keep me from experimenting! @smithak Thank you Smitha!
