We spent our 34th anniversary in the beautiful town of Cape May, NJ. It's been one of our favorite places for the longest time- a special getaway spot for just the two of us. There are several things we love to do while there- our most favorite being a visit to The Nature Conservancy's Preserve. This year we were encouraged to see major improvements they've made to the trails. We spent most of the day there- Jeff birdwatching with the binoculars and I, well, you know what I was doing!
@gillian6simpson Thank you Gillian! We saw several that day- their song is so pretty! Maybe someday you'll be able to go. @mrssmith Thanks Carla! We did. @annaluceya Thanks Anna! @netkonnexion Thanks Netkonnexion!
Ann, this is SO cool. . .I love the creative way you've captured and processed the shadows. . .instead of just a spot-on shot, this adds mystery and suggest endurance somehow! Congratulations.
@giffy Thank you Giffy! @groovygirlrn Thanks Sheri! @smithak Thank you Smitha! @kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! @lyno Thanks Lyn! This bridge is part of the path that goes around the Preserve. It goes over one side of the marshy pond and the water is covered with algae.
Well, my question is answered. Obviously I went backwards and viewed the latest photo first. Glad you were able to see the conservatory and once again Happy Anniversary to you both.
@beachradish Shadow shots are my favorite way to accomplish the dreaded selfie. Thank you Beachradish! @annaruth Thank you so much Anna! @cimes1 Thank you Carole! There is also an Audubon sanctuary and the Cape May National Park. I think they are all adjacent to one another so it covers a huge area. The Nature Conservancy maintains the Plover nesting grounds and those are the birds I think you were referring to in another comment. They are endangered but seem to be hanging on thanks to the efforts of the NC and other environmental groups. @sangwann Thanks Dione!
@la_photographic Thanks Laura! I hadn't planned on doing a shot but another follower was expecting one- so when this presented itself, I thought it'd be a fun one. Plus, you know how I hate being in front of the camera!! @potsbypam Thanks Pam! I do like shadow portraits!
@summerfield (o: Glad to share my absolute non-brilliance with you: Ann and Jeff walk along the Nature Conservancy path. The path leads to a bridge which goes over brackish pond where seashore waterfowl mate, nest, and feed. Said pond collects algae at bridge crossing. Ann and Jeff stop to look at it. It's greeen- really greeeen! Ann sees their shadows and remembers that Maggiemae is expecting an anniversary shot. Ann HATES selfies and has no desire to do a "real life" picture of herself. Ann thinks, "Our shadows will make a perfect anniversary shot to appease the 365 natives and no one will have to see how horribly I come out in pictures!" Ann raises the camera and takes two shots- hoping that 1) she has the camera set on color and 2) that Jeff doesn't move because he is completely oblivious to the fact that she is taking a picture. After a lovely dinner in Cape May, Ann and Jeff return home but it is too late to upload the pictures. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. Next day: Ann uploads pictures and discovers that the first shot is blurry but the second is not. On to iPiccy where she slightly sharpens the photo (like you can really tell!) put a little vibrance on the shot because it's not as bright as she remembers and then sits at the computer for 5 minutes trying to figure out why the shot seems so boring. "Well," she say, "let's just fix that with a mirror frame." First frame- just as boring as ever. Second frame- slight improvement. Third frame- ok this is overkill; it's time to stop. Save; upload to 365; get lots of nice anniversary wishes and impress thousands with spectacular processing skills (well, maybe not the last item).
That's brilliant.... love your description above as to how you did it. It sounds so familiar somehow... yet I feel sure you have impressed the thousands of 365 natives, this particular native is certainly impressed :)
@mrssmith Thanks Carla! We did.

@prttblues Thanks Bev- not to gross you out, but this is something like algae floating on water!
