Open or Shut by olivetreeann

Open or Shut

I rarely close my bedroom closet doors. It's not that I can't, or that I'm lazy. I just don't like them! They are the "accordion" style doors that fold in and out. They're gangly and awkward. They make a lot of noise. So rather than deal with them, I just keep them open, but that works out well for today's picture.
Nice processing

You are very brave to expose your wardrobe to the world! Actually nicely processed together with the rocker!

@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie! lol Only half of that is mine! If you divide it down the middle, Jeff's stuff is on the left, and mine is on the right. Our house- as well as our closet- is small. But we are very happy here.

OH, wow . . . Ann, are you doing both of the October challenges? You amaze me. . .love this processing what a great shot!
October 2nd, 2012
@lyno Thank you Lyn. Not really- I'm doing this one (I guess I should since I designed it!) all the way through. But I'm only doing one week of the rainbow. I've been doing these thumbnail challenges for three months now so I really didn't want to do another- but Nicole Campbell who made up the rainbow challenge has been a very faithful follower of mine and I just wanted to give her some support, so I'm just doing that one for a week. And now another great follower is continuing the Same September on through October! I told her that the Little Piggy would probably pop in to say hi on her challenges which means on Tuesday she'll be in one of these pictures somehow. Yes, by the end of October I should be certifiably crazy. (o:

@olivetreeann Ann, great processing. I'm with you, all three October challenges are great. Hard to follow all...but hopefully we can contribute some to all three.

Bev
I have doors like that. They are a pain in the butt, but I have to leave them closed. I could never sleep with closet doors open. It's always creeped me out. This is a great shot. Nice composition and processing.

Nice brown sepia
October 2nd, 2012
Love the processing, looks dramatic and many stories to tell.
October 2nd, 2012
@henrir Thanks Henri! I'll be doing this one (I think I should since I'm the one who made it up! lol). But I'm only doing the rainbow for one week and not the word list at all. I've done the thumbnail/calendar challenges for three months in a row now, so I'm sort of tired of them! But Nicole is one of my faithful followers so I wanted to give her a little support. And now Dixie is doing one too! She's carrying the same September over into October. I told her Little Piggy would probably make an appearance but for the most part I'll just be doing this challenge. I'm doing so many of these challenges, I'm starting to wonder if I could come up with a shot on my own! lol
@prttblues Thanks Bev! The closet doesn't really scare me- I know what's in there!
@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen! The question of the day was "How do you make an open closet door look interesting?" The answer was "Sepia!"
@chrismarfil Thank you Chris! Oh boy- I don't know if I'd want my closet to tell its stories- haha!
October 2nd, 2012
Nice vintage look to it
October 2nd, 2012
Nice image! I have slider doors and mine are never closed on my closet either unless I'm having company! LOL!
October 2nd, 2012
We used to have those accordian doors too, but then switched over to the sliding panel doors. Much nicer.
October 2nd, 2012
@bkbinthecity Thank you Brian!
@sharritta Thank you Sharon! Haha- me too!
@digitalrn Thanks Rick!
October 2nd, 2012
That sound familiar. In fact mine annoyed me so much that I took them off completely.
October 2nd, 2012
Really nice vintage processing! I had the same kind of doors, but after four kids bouncing basketballs off them, ours were falling apart so we had to replace them!
October 2nd, 2012
Love the edit and tones!
October 2nd, 2012
Terrific shot - love the processing, love the composition, really sweet!
October 2nd, 2012
Love the processing, gives it a great vintage look. I have given no thought to challenges this month but like you did not really want another thumbnail challenge. Have pondered doing a form of Jerry's (@orangecrush) one night stand to keep me going.
October 2nd, 2012
very cool editing!
October 2nd, 2012
Great composition, and lovely processing! Love the vintage vibe!
October 2nd, 2012
nice post work. Great lighting.
October 2nd, 2012
Nicely done. Love the processing and the vintage look.
October 2nd, 2012
Great lighting and a great processing choice. A beautiful shot.
October 2nd, 2012
Love the processing that gave it such a cool vintage look. Creative idea and that charming rocker really adds to the scene. Just lovely!
October 2nd, 2012
Great idea for the pic - nice processing too :)
October 2nd, 2012
Love this picture..the vintage look is great and if my clothes looked that well organized I would leave to doors open too. we had folding doors years ago and what a pain. now I've a double mirrored sliding doors and find them great as long as don't stuff too much on the bottom of the closet so the doors won't get stuck..I'll let you know when I start the next church series.. admire that you keep up the challenges..
October 2nd, 2012
Rip the doors out
October 2nd, 2012
@pandorasecho Thanks Dixie! After years of apartment dwelling where sometimes doors were included or not, I am not taking anything apart here unless I can afford to fix or alter it the way I'd like, so they're staying for now!
@eudora Thanks Diane! lol I had two boys and thankfully the only thing they damaged in the places we rented was my stuff- and even that was minimal- soccer balls were the culprit.
@orangecrush Thanks Jerry! Yes, I needed something to dress up the shot and sepia did the trick.
@pjonas Thanks Patty!
@salza Thanks Sally! Yes, I designed this one to be very random for that purpose!
@bobbyj Thank you Bobby!
@myautofocuslife Thanks Livia! Yes, I guess you could say I have an ecclectic vintage vibe as far as style goes. It's not because I purposely set out to make my home look that way, it's because I love family treasures and that's become my style over the years.
@cortens Thanks Julie! Yes, the afternoon sun in this room is quite beautiful- very soft and airy. The texture I added to the shot seemed to bring it out nicely.
@sangwann Thanks Dione! I do have my own brand of vintage.
@ubobohobo Thanks Margaret! Yes, without the processing this shot is a bit so-so. The natural light was quite pretty- but after all it is just a picture of a closet! So the processing gives it some flare.
@cimes1 Thanks Carole. The rocker was mine as a little girl. My mother bought it at an antique shop or something like that. Originally it had a brown lacquer stain on it- very ugly! In the late 80's I decided I'd had enough of the ugly stain and stripped the wood. Low and behold this gorgeous rocker was hiding underneath!
@alia_801 Thanks Alia! I had a couple option and one I actually preferred a little but the open/shut concept was a little obscure in it, so I went for the practical and forthright shot instead!
@bruni Thank you Bruni! lol If you think this is organized I'm glad- my closet method is one side for Jeff, one side for me, and you must make everything you want in there fit in there whether it makes sense or not! If you saw it a bit closer and in brighter lighting you'd see what I mean. But I will let you live with the illusion that it's organized! lol
@peterdegraaff Thank you Peter! lol When and if we ever get any breathing room financially (unlikely at this point), I'd replace them with the "disappears into the wall" type sliding doors I've seen in some homes. I may not like them or use them, but at least this way I can close them when company comes.
October 2nd, 2012
Your wardrobe looks much more organized than mine lol. Great composition, lighting and processing =)
October 2nd, 2012
Wonderful processing and shot.
October 2nd, 2012
Love the crosshatching, nice chair too. The processing is just right for this photo - excellent work Ann.
October 2nd, 2012
@tanja_1211 Thank you Tanja! It's not really that organized- it's been cool for a couple of weeks now and I still have a few sleeveless summer tops hanging in there! I really am not into fashion!
@netkonnexion Thank you Damon! It would have been quite boring without a little something thrown on it for good measure.
@automaticslim Thanks Andy! I think it's some sort of parchment texture but it worked really well with the sepia.
October 2nd, 2012
Wonderful composition & processing

@wenbow Thanks Wendy!

Very cool processing.

Thank you Leslie and Nada!
October 4th, 2012
Very pretty. The vintage processing gives it such a nice feel...like visiting your grandma's house and seeing her old furs and dresses. I love this.
October 7th, 2012
@edie Thank you Edie! Well, in a way you are seeing a little bit of my grandmother, since she is the one who gave me that rocking chair when I was a little girl.
October 7th, 2012
Wonderful processing.
October 7th, 2012
That is one problem I have with my hubby - he never shuts doors or drawers and it drives me crazy! Especially when I walk into an open drawer at knee height.
October 7th, 2012
@nicolecampbell lol Nicole- my husband likes to leave his sneakers about 10 inches outside the closet. Just in front of it, and just enough to drive me crazy! And he never closes a drawer or pushes a chair back all the way either. I am constantly going around finishing up after him!
October 7th, 2012
The setting is great and rocker is perfect :-)
October 13th, 2012
@vposey Thanks Vickie! Thank you for all your comments today. You looked at a lot of pictures!
