I don't understand. Are you saying the older wooden sign is no longer in use or the number 690 or none at all? I do like the weathered old wooden sign and the multicolor carpet of leaves is beautiful.
Thank you Henri, Ana, Kerri, Rashella, Allison, and Colleen! I did a reverse selective coloring on this to show that the wooden sign is now technically "obsolete" since the address is no longer valid. But we haven't taken it down for a couple reasons- 1) is that we have nothing to replace it with, 2) we are undecided about what to hang in its place if we keep the wooden pole and 3) since it faces the street, no one sees the writing on it anyway! The green sign (690) is the new house number and everyone in the community is supposed to have one posted on the left side of their driveway by Jan. 1, 2013. If you don't, there's some sort of fine involved. Of course our neighbor decided to post his on the right side of his driveway, so now it looks like we have two housed numbers. I'm thinking of planting a bush in front of his! lol The old sign is actually not gray or weathered. It's a redwood color like our house and the post is a tan color. So much for my attempt at being symbolic!
@lisjam1 Thanks Lisa! It's been a really lovely fall- the colors have been quite pretty. You'd think that we've lost all the leaves judging from this shot, but not so! I think the storm coming up the coast will knock them all off though. Jeff will have his work cut out for him with the leaf blower after that! @daisy Thank you Kathryn! Actually the change was for the better for us. Before, even though it was one long street, our street changed names four times. Now, it's one name. Before, even though we live on top of a mountain, that overlooks trees, our street was called Island View Drive. Ridiculous!! Now, it's the same name as the beginning- Clubhouse Dr. because the original community clubhouse used to be on it. So, it worked in our favor- but yes some of the changed street names are not as nice as what they used to be. @summerfield Thanks Vikki! The hdr effect in iPiccy really gave this shot some dof.
Very clever! When we lived in Vermont years ago our address was "the red house on the right, on Main St." REALLY! Then 911 organizers came along and gave the house a number and though we realized it had to be done, we were a little sad...
This is Excelllent Ann and a Instant Fav for Me! i love your processing and the colors are beautiful! i could not find something to fit the challenge today ...but i did make one fit a substitute! I have for the first time lagged behind a day and i am trying so to catch up! just wanted to see everyones pics first! And i am glad i did! i love this! :)
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian! We live in what is called a Lake Community. It's like a little village within the town in some ways. Most communities around here have their own "rules" (called by-laws) that govern how houses can be built and decorated so to speak. Recently they've made some exceptions (like allowing some people to paint their homes light blue or light yellow), but for the most part, all the houses here have that rustic feel and blend into the woods. @salza Thank you Sally! We always laugh about this sign- which came with the house. It seems that no one really considered whether or not people could read it this way. Instead of parallel to the road, it should be perpendicular because you can't read it unless you stop right in front of it! @ellimae Thank you Ellen! This one was stumping me too for a while. lol Just because I design them, it doesn't mean I can do them! But I saw the sign when I came back from swimming and thought it might work, so, voila! And thank you so much for the fav! @kandernob Thanks Karen! @filsie65 Thanks Phil! The 9-1-1 Emergency system is like GPS for the ambulance, police, fire etc. They have numbered every home and street, with no two street names the same under any given postal code. So that now, if you call and say "My uncle is having a heart attack!" They can automatically tell where you're calling from and dispatch the necessary emergency people immediately. In an area like this, where the closest ambulance is about 15 minutes away, that can be crucial. It's basically a computerized emergency detection and dispatch system. @chrismarfil Thank you Chris! @alia_801 Thanks Alia! Thanks to processing the old sign stands out here, but in reality it actually blends right in and only the new sign stands out. @vposey Thank you Vickie! That's fall in the Poconos! @myautofocuslife Thank you Livia! @la_photographic Thank you Laura! @sangwann Thank you Dione! @digitalrn Thank you Rick! By the time Sandy gets through here, Jeff will have a lot of leaf blowing to do!
Read some of the notes above.....interesting story. I can see the leaves have really covered your yard and it looks so cool. I love the processing, this is such a neat shot. Our sweet gum is in the process of shedding here. I started gathering leaves then we had some winds and they just come back, so will just let them sit until the lawn man comes to mow and let him do it. Then we start all over again...endless cycle ;-)
@cimes1 Thank you Carole! Hubby is in charge of leaf blowing (we don't rake because we don't have grass just stone), so it's up to him as to when it gets done. However, I think we are about to get some help from Mother Nature! The yard is completely covered right now- but I think after the winds they're predicting, there will be a lot less!
