About a week ago I published an abstract shot of the door to this music box. Many of you wanted to see the whole thing, so here it is! This unique music box is a beautiful reminder of my mother. I believe she bought in Europe many years ago, but I don't know where. I haven't been able to find out what song it plays either, although I know that it is a classical piece somewhat like Ave Maria.
Also for today's Mull Over March word: music (as in musicbox).
Thank you both- it is a very special one as I remember how much my mother loved it.
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie! I put this up most of all for you! I thought I remembered my mother calling it Ave Maria, but it is definitely not the Schubert tune that everyone is familiar with. It is also obvious that there once was a label on the bottom that probably said what the tune was, but who knows what happened to it! The winding mechanism is in the back, but the music box is activated when you open the door. You can just barely see the stopper in this picture. I am at a loss as to how to find out what piece it is.
@allie912 Thank you Allison! That is a hand made lace doily from my grandmother's house (the one from the mandolin shot a few days ago). A friend once asked me if I my house was full of antiques. I told her that I didn't have too many, but I did like "old things"!
@lyno Thank you Lyn! I shot this in the early morning when the sun came through the window on her. I wanted her to stand out that way- thanks for noticing!
What a lovely music box. Thank you for showing the whole thing. Make a recording of it and I might be able to find it for you. I'm a classical freak. A great photo, Ann. I'm glad you have something that you hold dear that came from her.
@bkbinthecity Thank you Brian! @anazad511 Thanks Ana! @pflaume Thanks Lisa! @prttblues Thank you Bev- I was thinking about posting a video of it playing but I'd rather just send it to you. I don't remember if I have your email or not, but if you're willing to look for, I'll be happy to send you it! @hudamor Thank you Huda! @netkonnexion Thank you Damon! @la_photographic Thanks Laura! @cimes1 Thanks Carole! If memory serves me correctly you also wanted to see the "whole thing", so you and Maggie were the main reasons for choosing this piece for this challenge! @sangwann Thank you Dione!
@httpgeffed Thank you Colleen!
