Shadow of Silence by olivetreeann

Shadow of Silence

Come play with my silver fingers,
Run yours quickly over mine.
Make my shadows disappear,
With music sweet like wine.

End the silence of my sleep;
Wash quiet time away.
Let me sing a tune for you,
And chase the clouds away.

Technicolor April word: silver
Label 4 April word: silence
Personal Challenge: Playing with shadows.

I was able to combine my 3 challenges again today- I'm happy, happy, happy!! Jeff and I bought this little African Thumb harp at a craft fair years ago. It's fun to pull it out and just pluck it every now and then. The silver "strings" have darkened over the years so I converted the shot to sepia and then painted their color back in to accentuate the silver tone. I applied a texture which warmed up the sepia tones and added the vignette. I then repainted the strings in a second time. While processing the thought of fingers touching fingers came to mind and a few moments later the poem was complete. The sun made a brief showing today, but it's been gray and overcast for the most part. The sweet little sounds of the harp do seem to chase the gloom away.
Cool

Thank you Kerri!
Thank you Ana!

it has its character written all over it, the years and the usage. glad it found a home in yours. the processing came out so natural, if you didn't say you processed it, i'd have no idea. wonderful shot.

I think I can work out how this thumb harp works. The hole in the frame underneath makes the sound resound. Love your words and how you did this photo!

Beautiful shot, Ann. Love the soft wood tone and the subtle shadow.

Cool shot and perspective. Nice shadows.

Wonderful little poem..another great talent of yours? your processing paid off. looks like you got it just the way you intended. for all that effort and the nice picture I'll fav. it.

Beautiful shot Ann, and I love the poetry.
April 20th, 2013
beautiful on every level ~
April 20th, 2013
Excellent editing Ann. You really made a nice shot. The pov that you shot it makes the 'strings' look like eye lashes.
April 20th, 2013
That sounds like an interesting instrument.

@summerfield Thanks Vikki! It's actually a much lighter color- the texture added the vignette and weathered look around the edges. I was surprised at how natural it looked too.
@maggiemae Thanks Maggie! It's a fun little thing- fits in the palm of your hand.
@pflaume Thanks Lisa!
@daisy Thanks Kathryn!
@demmie Thanks Demmie!
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole!
@henrir Thanks Henri! It has a lot of character for such a little instrument.
@bruni Thanks Bruni! I wouldn't call myself a poet, but I dabble with it every now and then. This one came to me rather easily.
@fullcircle Thanks Cindy!
@eniaral Thanks Laraine!
@tara11 Thanks Tara- I had a couple different angles which all gave out the eye lash effect, but this one showed the shadow best.
@digitalrn Thanks Rich! It has a very pretty sound some what like a metallic version of a bamboo wind chime.

What an interesting instrument! Well done getting the three challenges at once too - sounds like you need to play your little thingy more often!
April 20th, 2013
A wonderful shot. The instrument itself is so interesting. I love the texture in the wood, and the simplicity of the (not sure what to call them -- fingers?) silver elements against the wood is beautiful.
April 20th, 2013
Ann this is really beautiful - I love the poem, am fascinated by the harp and love all you did plus of course the 3-in-one. Fav for me I know I will enjoy it again!
April 20th, 2013
This is beautiful. And all that work you did as well! Wow. My shots are lucky if they get a quick twist and crop! lol!
April 20th, 2013
Amazing and beautiful!

@alia_801 Thank you Alia! When I had it out yesterday I realized it will be a fun thing to play with when my granddaughter Leigh comes to visit.
@taffy Thanks Taffy! The wood is actually lighter than this picture would indicate but it does have a really nice contrast to the "fingers".
@filsie65 Thank you Phil! The poem is just a little ditty and it was fun to hit 3 in 1. Thank you so much for the fav!!
@Cheesebiscuit Thank you Cheesebiscuit! I am such a dabbler when it comes to processing. Sometimes I have an idea of what I want (in this case to pull out the contrast between wood and metal) so I upload the shot and mess around with it until I find what I'm looking for. For this shot, I was actually looking for some sheet music to overlay and hit the wrong texture button by accident- a happy accident as it turns out!
@mrssmith203 Thanks Carla!!

@httpgeffed Thank you Colleen! As you can see from my comment to Donald- it was just a quick little thing I thought of while processing the picture.

Bev
Great shot! Great shadow. You did great on the processing as well. It doesn't look like there's been any editing at all. The thumbnail makes it look like an eyelash or something.... Great job, Ann! :)

@prttblues Thanks Bev!
April 24th, 2013
This turned out really well Ann, I admire your fearless approach to editing and your patience!
