We had a wonderful time today with Bev Owens (@prttblues). She took us to her favorite "shooting" spots; the duck pond, the stone churches, Dartmouth and the Connecticut River, and the place we dubbed "Bev's Mountain". These lovely ladies greeted us when we were coming down the other side. As Debbie and Bev waited in the car, I took the chance to get "up close" and personal. The cows seemed to like my sugary compliments. While I was taking pictures of the cows, a car pulled up and I said to the driver, "Just what you need! A silly tourist taking pictures of your cows!" He laughed and told me that he had pulled over just to tell me there was no truth to the saying that "you can tip over cows". Believe me, these little ladies had no threat of me ever doing that!
I love it when cows wander over to see what you are up to. Many are often shy, but once and awhile you find a bunch that seem real friendly and curious
Beautiful colors in this shot and the cows are so sweet and pretty. Cows have the most beautiful eyes, I agree with Carole, @cimes1 trouble is I love a good steak almost better than anything. There are roomers that "cow tipping" is a favorite pastime of Wisconsin youth, glad to know this is not true.
Thank you Kiran! The sun was setting and it really brightened everything on the hillside. I couldn't figure out how to balance it out, but in the end I decided I liked it over-exposed.
Thanks Timothy! Yes, this shot would be a lovely poster for Chic-filet!
Thanks Lisa!
Thanks Maggie!
Thanks Yao! Could be a New England thing (tipping cows)- I'm not sure but I had heard of it. I think it goes that if they are sleeping and you sneak up on them, you are able to tip them over before they can wake up and run.
Thank you Jackie!
Thank you Carole! Just so you know, these gals are dairy cows so there's no worries here.
Thanks Carole B.! I have never tipped a cow- I really don't think I'd like to be tipped, so why would a cow?! But not to worry about eating or not eating with this group- they are dairy cows.
Thanks Nicole!
Thanks Allison! The setting sun was really bright across the field but posed a bit of a problem for my p&s on the exposure. In the end I decided I liked the over-exposed spots as they were.
Thanks again to one and all. We're getting ready for a day of sight seeing while we head home. I'll be catching up tomorrow.
@eudora Thank you Diane! LOL no cow tipping for me- I'd much rather take their picture! @taffy Thanks Taffy! This particular foursome was quite photogenic and very cute.
Wow!! These ladies came out great! I almost used one of the ones I shot from my car!! That would have been funny! And that comment the guy made was hilarious! I am just recooping now from our excursions on Wednesday! It's been a rough few days, but it was well worth it because I got to hang out with you and got to take you to my favorite places! I had a blast! And these ladies came out perfect! Fav! And no, not because it's from my mountain ... okay partly ... lol! Super job, Ann! :)
A lovely portrait of the ladies. yes cows are such curious animals. I remember babysitting a farmer's little one and every morning we would go up to the fence and wait for the cows to come close. you can touch them, they're that friendly.
@prttblues Thank you Bev! We had such fun with you- and I do think you have one of the loveliest mountains in Vermont! I don't think it was possible to take a bad shot of this quartet- they were so cute and they were just waiting there for us to take pictures. Yes, the fellow in the car was funny. I could tell he was just having fun seeing this silly tourist in the middle of the road taking a picture of cows, so he had to stop and say something! Thanks also for the fav!
@bruni Thanks Bruni! If I had felt a little more sure of my balance, I might have tried getting over the gully between the road and the fence. I'm sure these cows would have been happy to have me pet them- but they may have tired of me quickly when it became evident I had no treats for them!
