Black and White Book Club 13

I'm taking a little detour from texture today. It's been snowing and the white flakes have really piled up. But they made a nice background for that flash of color in the center of my black and white calendar this month. I added the posterizing effect and a soft pink vignette in iPiccy to soften the extra-bright flamingos with a wintery feel while they wade around the ever-rising snow.

This picture was shot in color, converted to black and white and the flamingos painted back in. The posterize effect was then applied and the edges of the original were painted back on to define the birds' shape. The vignette was applied using the "matte" effect with a pink tint, shrinking the size so that it did not overpower the picture and a light gray border frame was applied last.
Cool shot

Great selective color editing. I'll bet they didn't find any water in that well. I'm in Madison, WI. Where are you located?

Nice processing, love the edges & the warmth of the pink colour! Poor flamingos, they are waiting for a better weather to jump out of there ;)
February 14th, 2014
Great pop of colour. I must say that the flamingos do really look out of place in the snow!
February 14th, 2014

Thank you all for the positive feedback. We really did get a huge snowfall when all was said and done. Wishing you all a Happy Valentines Day wherever you are!

@bill_fe Thank you so much for the fav Bill! I'm on the eastern side of Pennsylvania. I you look at a map I am near a city on the border called Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg- but compared to Madison, it's probably more like a small town than a city.

@olivetreeann Oh, you don't live too far from Hamburg and the world's biggest Cabelas! Yes, we stop at every Cabelas we pass on the interstate! LOL! Actually, my husband is actually assigned to Carlisle Barracks this year for school, but he's doing his fellowship in Boston instead of doing the school in residence there, else we'd be really close to you!
February 14th, 2014
Great selective coloring.
February 14th, 2014
@homeschoolmom I'm not familiar with Hamburg- I'll have to look it up on a map! As for Cabelas- we pass a huge one on the way to my son's home in Michigan. Sadly, we are not campers, hunters or any other outdoor sort of stuffers- otherwise we'd stop there! lol at me

@daisymiller Thank you Daisy!

Nice shot, Ann! That's a lot of steps, but good job on the processing! I wouldn't ever have the patience for that! Well done :)
February 15th, 2014
@prttblues Thanks Bev! Well, you know with me it's a fiddle with this and a fiddle with that until I like the way it looks.
February 15th, 2014
This is a lot of fun as an image -- flamingos in the snow is a funny concept, and you've captured this well.

So whimsical! My Aunt Mary used to love pink flamingoes, and I always think of her when I see one. :) I hope you had a Happy Valentine's Day!
