Thank you one and all! I must confess though- I did not know what to write ABOUT this shot, so I listed off its compositional components! Who knew taking the easy way out would amuse so many!?
For those who asked or took note- yes, the birds like to use this occasionally as the "waiting room" as the suet feeder hangs nearby.
@sangwann This bell used to hang outside the kitchen door of my grandmother and grandfather's house. I think it was actually used as the doorbell when deliveries were being made (like the milkman in the days before you bought milk at the supermarket). Long story- but eventually the house was closed up and was to be sold. My aunt asked me to help clean things out and pack things up and in return allowed me to take a lot of the things that weren't going to be used anymore or that she didn't want. I took a whole bunch of family pictures, some beautiful antique doodads and for some reason, loved the door knocker and this bell. So they came home with me. And I've had this hanging by my door, wherever we've lived since.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki- oh, it just builds character. @vickisfotos Thank you Vicki! @pyrrhula Thank you Pyrrhula! It's quite obvious and in other places you can tell where the Italians settled and the English and so on. Architecture is such an interesting way to study how areas were settled and what the needs of the people were who lived there. @creativeaddict Thank you Laur!
