A student hurries to her car in the bitter cold while I take a quick shot of the lights across campus. I know that there is a big difference in the way a camera records incandescent light and tungsten light so I wanted to see how that would translate in black and white. In this case you can definitely see the difference more in the color version (the tungsten light has an eerie yellow-green cast to it). But I like the documentary feel of the black and white version as well. I had just gotten ready to take the shot when someone turned the lights on in the classroom we were using for our photo meeting, so I had to clone out some unwanted reflections. It's not a great shot- but I do like the ghost-like quality of that student on the sidewalk!
there's an eerie feel to this despite the place being well lit. you can see the one shoe of the passerby. i'm surprised you haven't used the 'big gun'. had you shot this in long exposure you would have gotten a more ghostly shot of the person.
Great shot, Ann. I was looking for the student and then I read the "ghost-like quality" so then I realised I saw what I thought I did! I like it. It came out excellent.
I like the feeling of the student hurrying, too. This week in my photo class our assignment is intentional blur, so I'll be trying some similar things.
@yaorenliu Thank you Yao! @summerfield Thank you Vikki! Funny you should mention the T3i. As I am learning about AV on the Powershot, I had decided today to work with the "big gun" at the same time since the principals apply to both cameras. So there you go- a double work in progress! @maggiemae Thank you Maggie, and thank you for the fav! @prttblues Thanks Bev! @dibzgreasley Thanks Debs! @salza Thanks Sally! It is!! @leestevo Thank you Lee-Ann! Yes, it's cold!! @radiogirl Thank you Kathy! Oh, but your shots look even colder! @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @eudora Thanks Diane! Have fun experimenting! @slash Thank you Susan and thanks for the fav! @nicoleterheide Thank you Nicole! I have had the hardest time finding interesting light this week!
I like the B&W version. The ghostly figure really stands out here. I like how the snow is lit up by the street lights. The color version is great too, but I think this one has a great eerie feel.
Like the ghostly image!
