Bent's Theater, Medina NY by olivetreeann

Bent's Theater, Medina NY

Built in 1864, Bent's Opera House is the cornerstone structure of Medina's Downtown Historic District. It is one of the oldest surviving opera houses in the United States, having been built at the height of the Civil War and the Lincoln Presidency. Needless to say, wandering around this impressive building was a fantastic way to spend the afternoon! It was sad to see it in such disarray, but efforts are being made to restore it and if the folks involved in that endeavor are successful, Bent's will once again hum with life. In the meantime, it holds a plethora of photographic opportunities!

Goodness look at all the texture. This sounds like a great place to spend some time with camera in hand.

see, you saw this and all i see were the beautiful windows and the lights coming through. i saw bill once at the stage, and you on the second floor, but aside from that, i think we all followed what our eyes saw!

@salza - wish you were there, you're one of those i'd like to spend time photographing with. pretty sure ann feels the same way!

@summerfield I know- I noticed a few times how each of us gravitated toward different things and wished we could have uploaded them somewhere and compared them right away! I was torn with this- black and white or color. In the end black and white won out but still...the color in here was also fascinating!

@salza Vikki is right- I would like to wander around a place with you and photograph things!

@olivetreeann - the few shots i had processed were awesome in black and white! but i was torn because i wanted to show the colour of the interior.

Nice shot, Ann. I like the b&w. I'm glad to know it's being restored. Old buildings like this should never be left to die.

@bill_fe Thanks Bill! I really liked how you choose to shoot the balcony and here I saw the ladder in the corner! Even though we were facing the same way we saw two completely different shots! So cool!
