The Odd Ball by olivetreeann

The Odd Ball

I am willing myself at the moment NOT to use archive shots even though I've got quite a few I'd like to post! So, before the day became too hot I wandered out into the back yard in search of something to photograph. Lo and behold, I found this curious thing in a pile of leaves. I have no idea where it came from! But I'm glad I found it.
What do you think it is? A defective coconut, a St. Bernard's chew toy? A billiard ball after a really hard tournament? Inquiring minds want to know!

Isa it soft Ann? Looks like it could be one of those round balls, a fungus type?

cool

super title too

Curious. Your tags suggest it is made of wood and it looks like that too. I would suspect it came off some sculpture or gate post!

Nice find!!

Very interesting and strange. How big is it?

pam
cool whatever it is ann

Wonderful use of processing to bring out shape and texture. It's hard not to post archived ones -- I too struggle to go out on a shoot when I have photos I'd like to work with already in hand.

Very nice shot

Nice. (But I for one have no objection at all to posting archived shots!)

It looks like the squirrels might have been at it. Whatever it is you were meant to find it and share it with us!

Thanks for sharing

This is so intriguing Ann. You have captured it beautifully. Looks like the sort of thing you might find washed up on a beach. I'm guessing you don't have the sea in your garden!!

I like the textures and the colours.

How fascinating! It looks made of wood and the hole looks man-made. So interesting where could it have come from?
August 15th, 2015
It looks like an old door knob to me. Great find, shot and textures.

How odd indeed, almost like an eye
August 15th, 2015
I'm glad you did, too! You've turned your found object into a splendid, eye-catching photograph! : )

A beautiful pic. Great find and capture , beautiful background

Wonderful textures, and I like that the mystery of what the object might be gets the imagination flowing!

@tammy73 @thresheg @dsp2
Thank you Tammy, Graham and DS for your generous favs!

@allie912 Thank you Allison! I hear you on that but I have no clue as to what it is/was.
@digitalrn Thanks Rick- no it's wood.
@moviegal1 Thank you Kerri!
@sailingmusic Thank you Myrna! It seemed to fit!
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie! I would be inclined to agree however, the hole is not very large and it goes through to the other side. The hole is too small for a dowel, but could have possibly had a small rope going through it. But I really have no idea what it is!
@photographycrazy Thanks Bill!
@lbingle365 Thanks Lisa! It fits nicely in the palm of your hand. Much smaller than a baseball though.
@timewalker Thank you Pam!
@taffy Thank you Taffy! Almost used another one today- but then remembered I hadn't fiddled around with WWYD yet!
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian!
@aikimomm Thanks Phoebe! My personal standard is to do more daily than archived however sometimes when I get busy I fall into the "oh I'll just pull something out of the archives" rut!
@salza Thanks Sally! Squirrels or a beaver!
@sdutoit Thanks Sylvia!
@thistle Thank you Joyce! No, no seas in any of my gardens, but wouldn't it be lovely to be near one!
@quietpurplehaze Thank you Hazel!
@leananiemand Thank Leana! I have no idea where it came from or what is was when it was there- but it sure is fun to try and figure it out!
@sangwann Thank you Dione! No, it wouldn't work as a door-knob. It's not that big- the close-up is deceiving.
@susale Thank you Suse! I think the thing in the cage is playing with your perception! hehehe
@wordsmith Thank you Teresa!
@pyrrhula Thank you Pyrrhula! Believe it or not the background is the garden swing and some trees in my backyard!
@dsp2 Thank you DS! You certainly need your imagination for this one because there absolutely no clues as to what it really is!

Thank you all for your overwhelmingly positive response to my little "odd ball". I was just showing the picture to Jeff and even he is baffled!
