Day 1 of a month of black and white! In the past we've had more artsy approaches to this month, so I'm a bit daunted by some of the technical aspects of the book we're reading BUT I did pull up my histogram today and check the readings before I took the shot. While I had some difficulty getting what the author described as the perfect balance, I felt I was able to accomplish the look of a perfect balance in my post-processing. The biggest challenge of the day? What to shoot! It was nice in the morning but by the time I pulled my camera out, the day had turned gray and dull. I had wanted to do a vignette study of light throughout the day, but the weather spoiled that. Oh well, some other time! So I decided I would focus on shape this week and I was just about to settle for a shot I wasn't crazy about when I noticed this. So I switched to pattern and was really happy with both the contrast in tones (clearly seen with dark, light and mid-tones) and in texture (the metal of the lamp and the stitching on the doily).
Instant FAV! The shot is lovely with its wonderful clarity showing off those beautiful stitches, and I learned so much from your informative commentary. I may try a shot like this. I've been looking for a way to photograph some of my Mom's crocheted doilies, and this has inspired me. Thank you! :-)
Beautiful shot! Love the range in tones.I tried to do a black and white yesterday and struggled to achieve a balance in the image. You did a fabulous job with this one.
Thank you one and all! I'm a bit under the weather with some joint issues thanks to our rapidly changing weather but I'll be back on track soon. Thanks for your patience!
