My friend Stephanie from photo club asked me to teach her my moon shot technique. So we got together the other night at her brother's farm and went out to shoot the moon. We had such fun- sitting on chairs in the middle of the corn field, watching the moon rise, listening to a fox call, and then enjoying the kooky neighbor's impromptu fireworks show (we think he'd had a little too much beer!). This is not her shot- it's mine, but she got one just like it. Did a little post-processing work on the contrast and sharpness, but for the most part, it's just as glorious as it was when seen with the naked eye.
I'm told it's called a Hunter's Moon at this time of year, but I haven't had a chance to research why.
Great capture, Ann. I remember when I told you how to do it and now you are passing on the knowledge... That's so awesome. I think it's a Hunter's Moon because it's hunting season. At least here it is because I was out a few days ago and someone was hunting.
such wonderful detail. the name Hunter's Moon prompted me to google the names of the the moon and it came up with some very interesting information. Still havnt tried out your moon photo technique yet. Must get on to it now the days and nights are a bit warmer.
My goodness! Thank you so much everyone! Thanks for the links Alia and Katy- read them both! Yes Bev- you got it started and it keeps on going- I've passed on your expertise to quite a few! And many of you guessed correctly- the moon is named after the hunting season. Was interested to learn its Native American origins.
Thank you for the views, comments and favs- all appreciated more than words can convey!
@bruni Thanks Bruni- it did and was a very interesting read. With the name "temple" I wondered if it was associated with the Mormons, but how surprising to find it associated with the Quakers! @daisymiller Thank you Daisy and thank you for the fav!
Here's some info on the Hunter's Moon name too: http://www.universetoday.com/61121/hunters-moon/
Fabulous moon shot. FAV!
