Thank you Mandy, Kas, Kim, Ferry, Henri, Dawn, Helen, Nicole, Kathy, Babs, Wendy, Rick, Kathy, Connie, Allie, Katy, Brian, Kerri and Leggzy! I'm glad you're enjoying these colorful delusions of mine! They'll probably continue until the grands come but then I'll let them choose the picture of the day.
@taffy Not my favorite so far- I couldn't really accomplish what I originally wanted to do and ran out of time to experiment. But thanks for giving it a look-see Taffy!
in the early 1900's if my recollection of philippine history is still correct, after almost 50 years of american possession, the americans gave us our 'second' independence on what was called a republic day, on july 4, 1946, coinciding with the american independence day. at one time, it was our own independence day masked as philippine-american friendship day as opposed to june 12, 1898 when the americans first liberated us from 500 years of spanish domination. and then somehow in 1987 whoever was in power, meaning to get away from the american influence and be 'really' independent, ungratefully scrapped it as a holiday (which was ironic, because that administration was led by the ultra rich and mostly american-educated bastards and bitches - sorry for my french). but there are still die-hards who out of old habits still light fireworks, albeit now illegally, on july 4. it is in a way relieving that there is one day less for accidents from fire and other maiming from mishandling of firecrackers and such. and of course, there being a large contingent of americans living in the philippines, it is no-doubt july 4th is celebrated with less spectacular fireworks, perhaps, in that little corner of the tropics. :-)
