There was an Avon Shop tucked away in Bill's Old Bike Barn and Museum which was a lot of fun for me to photograph. I sold Avon back in the 1980's and earned one of these figurines when my sales were good enough to put me in the "President's Club". Every figurine was that of Mrs. Albee. She was the first to bring around Mr. Avon's fragrances for friends and family to try. I still have mine- but she's packed in a box somewhere in the attic! One of these days I'll get that space sorted out and maybe she'll reappear on a shelf somewhere.
@maggiemae I did have them on display in my bedroom for many years but somehow when we moved to Pennsylvania they weren't unpacked. If I ever manage to reorganize and declutter my attic as I hope to, I think I will pull them out and put them on display again.
Thank you to one and all! Most of us in the U. S. have some sort of Avon memories- or even Avon itself. For those of you who have a few bottles and what-nots there is a huge market for Avon collectibles. You won't get rich on the sale, but it's fun to see them go to someone who appreciates them.
So for those who are curios- "Mr. Avon" was actually named David H. McConnell. He began his entry into the business world by selling books door to door but in September of 1886, he decided to sell perfume instead. Originally Avon was called the "California Perfume Company" and shortly after its formation the company used the "door to door" method to sell its products. The first Avon lady was Persis Foster Eames Albee and yes, you can still become an Avon lady today by signing up on line or through another representative. Avon is still one of the top selling cosmetic companies in the world.
@mzzhope I still use it for that- it's better than any bug repellent I've ever bought and it smells nicer!
Thanks again to all for the views, comments and favs!
