Land viewing is as old as our country is. People have always preferred to live in river deltas. (Fish and shellfish) One of the reasons was also to extract salt from the peat by burning it. Salt was very expensive and then in demand. (The Roman legion of soldiers were paid with an amount of salt.) It started with raising the place where they lived. ( Terpen we call those places.) Often an island that was dry at high tide. Later on with the protection and acquisition of new agricultural land. Monastery monks have contributed a lot to this. Now it is a science and high tech.
